Default Check out this clutch issue

My car started making a rubbing sound like two sanding disks against each other. It could only be heard on letting out clutch at first engagement, forward or reverse. Once clutch out it was quiet and workedz fine. The clutch is now out and here is what we found:

RPS Twin Carbon clutch. This car puts out 640hp/603ft lbs.
The car is not raced nor have I ever dumped the clutch. No burn outs. I'd love to hear comments because I might expect in a 1000hp car but in 643hp?

MAN,,,,, Ide be on the phone with RPS! That made me SICK when I saw it!

Do you have a BIG LOPEY CAM?? I have a SPEC Twin Disk. When you pay that much for a clutch, you should expect more that that out of it! Ide LOVE to know what RPS tells you.

My Spec was $1200. What did that baby cost new??????????

My office mate and I took a good long look at it and he ask if the input shaft could have been out of round. I said that it was supported by a pilot bearing in the CRANK.

Could your pilot bearing have gone bad and allowed that TT input shaft to wobble and put stress on the disk inner plate and those links???????

Hey guys Merry Christmas!
I got a little busy and caught up in the holidays. Regarding questions about TT and splines....I will find out and post again. No crazy cam here Bill.
RPS told the shop they no longer make this clutch (based on serial number) so no replacement parts. My "fully rebuildable" clutch can't be rebuilt. So I'm looking again. I was disappointed to hear that RPS would not make it right as I really liked that clutch. Expensive clutch. Oh well. Live and learn.

What rps is this? The billet? The full carbon street or the 1/2 carbon street ( whatever it's called ) . I have the full carbon street rps twin. Absolutely love the clutch. When I installed it I can't recall it looking like that. How many miles how old is the clutch. Sucks to see that.

the splines on the clutch disc look rather worn and look like they twisted.

Going in to shop tomorrow and will find answers for all the questions. This clutch had 10,000+/- easy, highway miles mostly. I can honestly say I have never raced it or dumped that clutch. It is full twin carbon, and I really liked this clutch too. Didn't chatter. Pedal pressure was no different than stock. The worse part is that this "Rebuildable" clutch is not rebuildable any more......RPS said they no longer make this particular clutch so no parts are available. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed.

In regards to coilovers? If so, I will add this: Not taking anything away from LG, but AFE (the company who now owns Pfadt) will gladly rebuild yours for you. I just purchased a used set and will be sending them out. Here is a link

So....to finish this post. The answers to your questions:
Pilot bearing- Normal
Splines on disk NOT twisted, bent or otherwise.

I put in a McCleod RXT. We'll see how this works out.

My queston is:

Did it fail due to BAD DESIGN or some other cause.

If I had to guess, it would be a bad design issue because you cant get new parts to rebuild it. I guess they had a few unhappy people.

ack:

Hi Bill!

The shop says it was likely a design issue. Looking at the rest of the clutch last night, the carbon material looked to be in excellent condition with little wear, but I didn't measure it. Very, very disappointed.

FOLLOW UP:

McCleod RXT PLACED. I have about 150mi on it. So far it seems to work well. I can say that the pedal is as soft as stock and no chatter, a very pleasant surprise.
