I am still dealing with a nasty tapping on a cold start. Takes a good 30-45 secs to start tapping after cranking and then goes away once motor warms up.. I am convinced it is a lifter bleeding down. I saw a video on youtube where a guy removed the valve covers and sprayed some carb cleaner down through the pushrods and had success with clearing up some lifter noise on his LS motor. I was thinking about doing this, what do you guys think?
I think I know the video you're talking about but that was a different problem. I don't think spraying it with carb cleaner is gonna help if it's bleeding down on you.

I believe in the video I saw he also said he thought he had a lifter bleeding down, I may be wrong. Is there anyway to locate which lifter is tapping without pulling the heads? What about pulling a plug wire one at a time?
I would try a qt of Marvel Mystery Oil..... as it would have the same effect as the carb cleaner but saves the R&R of the valve cover. Both solutions use a solvent... I believe MMO has naphtha as the solvent, check the MSDS for th chemical make up.

Pull the valve cover and see if you can press the pushrod down on each lifter and or see of there is any lost motion between any of the valves and rockers/ pushrods when the engine is dead nuts cold.
If the lifter/pushrod is good, you will not be able to collapse the internal lifter piston and there will be zero clearance between the rocker tip and valve

I did this on the passenger side and none of the rods had any movement, I will try the driver's side as well. The tapping, from top of the engine seemed to be more on the pass side, but now listening from the bottom, it sounds more like the driver's side
