Where do you place multimeter probes to check for electrical draw with engine off?

Glove box light staying on is very common. Something to check.

Default Multimeter 101 Help Please

My question pertains to the correct settings on the multimeter. The neighbor I borrowed one from wasn't sure which setting to use. Can someone help please.

I used the one which has a "wavy line" above a "mA" with another large script "A" below the other letters. There is also another setting with the
same wavy line above what looks like a italic looking "u" next to an "A"
Anyone?

When I turned on the multimeter it stayed on 0.02 and didn't change
no matter how I moved around the two connection points to insure a
good connection. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the
multimeter, or am I missing doing something right?
