I recently posted a message about doing a full C5 rebuild using C6 parts. Bill Curlee sent me a link to a great tutorial o how to do the whole rebuild. However I've changed my mind and only want to do the upgrade that a novice can do - I don't want to attempt a full, clearance setting rebuild.
I found where Bill also referenced to a poster about the more minor upgrade but after I Private Messaged him I didn't get a response. Here is a couple of sentences from that post:
I have a LIST of recommended post to read on this very topic that I will attach later tonight . It discusses installing all new C6 ZO6 output shafts, clutch packs and newly improved Heavy Duty Beleview clutch pack springs.
These improvements can EASILY be accomplished by the Do It Yourselfer and DOES NOT require any special differential alignment/gear set up special equipment stuff!
OK, so I have Z06 3.42, Hoosier carbon fiber clutch packs, hardened long and short shafts and I need to find a write up that lists what else I can easily replace (no full rebuild) with stronger parts and hopefully a tutorial to show how.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.
I would seriously consider getting a pro to install it. 1 wrong torque setting or improper gauging of the packs and you might detonate the entire rear. UNLESS yo are familiar with the process just make sure you buy feeler gauges, and have all the tools needed, and here is the link to the GM rebuild per another forum member https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5g...=1&hl=en&pli=1

Have read the upgrade (better shafts, clutches, etc) is relatively easy compared to a full tear down and rebuild. Been working on Chevys for years just not familiar with Corvettes. Have feeler gauges and about every common hand tool known to man. I don't think much in the way of special tools is supposed to be needed for the parts upgrade. Don't have Corvette special tools but can get any that are needed.
I just need a list of stronger bolt=in parts (have the shafts and clutches)and a post or tutorial of how it is done. I'm gonna double post at this point and put a copy of this in the Super Charged / turbo'd section. Those guys don't leave anything in one piece very long.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
Either way, good luck. The shafts don't seem to be too difficult to replace and/or remove. It's the pumpkin that needs the special tools. I have done gear replacements myself, but this was in the older rear ends like the 10 bolts and the 12 bolts. It was not hard but certainly not easy either. Now with these rears they threw all kinds of monkey wrenches. Whatever you do take your time and triple check your work.
The link voda posted is excellent. Print it out and go for it.
No gear setup involved.
The tool Capthuff shows is nice but not necessary.
A bearing press is needed though. Just use some sort of small round shaft that will press on the part. That's all I did.
I just did this job and I used that special tool and a hydraulic press from harbor freight. A torque wrench is needed also. I used a wrench on the diff to hold the diff case bolts while I torqued to 41 ft/lbs.
Replacing the clutch packs/washers/output shafts is a pretty straight forward process.
This tool is a big help getting the stuff apart.
Have fun and good luck with your project.
Seem to know your stuff about these diffs. To restate I have C5 z06 diff, 300m replacement shafts, Hoosier carbon clutch packs,( still looking for/deciding on Bellville washers). I see that some people replace one gear on one side of the diff with a C6 gear, Should I be doing this? Since I am ot using the C6 shafts will that gear fit with my aftermarket 300M shafts or will I need to keep the C5 Z06 gear?
