Hey all,
Will be having my Christmas presents installed in a couple weeks, and need some advice. I was given some LG longtube headers and Borla s-type exhaust for my 2001 6 speed coupe. The shop has said that they will replace the spark plugs and wires, and I was wondering if I should replace the coils while I have then doing the other stuff? They are the stock coils with 36k miles on them. I've not had any problems with studdering or missing, but wonder if getting new, hotter coils would be a good idea, or are the stock coils good enough?
Thanks in advance for your collective insight and depth of wisdom

no reason to replace good stock coils, nothing to be gained buying aftermarket
Put some ARH headers on my 2001 C5 3 months ago. about 43,000 miles on the car. Coils are doing just fine. That would have been a pointless added cost.
NOW a suggestion I would make is to consider new O2 sensors. (In fact, you may want to research moving the rear O2s to the front and blocking off the rears. It is a little involved and requires getting a conversion harness. Or you could just get the new sensors.)
Talk to your mechanic and see if he knows the LS motor well enough to advise you on this.

Thanks Sam, I'll check into it. The shop that I'm having it done at is a vette specialist, so they very well may know your idea...i'll run it past them. Have a good one.
I agree with the above, leave the coils alone... the stock ones very rarely fail and the msd coils are a huge waste of money
Thanks Neutron, I was having a hard time justifying 4 to 600 after my great wife spent all of the money on the other parts. I had a hard time telling her that I had to have the car dyno tuned.
