Merge collectors near done. I'll have to wait to weld the seams in the oval megaphone until the next section is at least tacked on to prevent tear dropping the seams. My desk job is taking a toll on my welding. Not a lot of torch time in the past 5 years and I'm a bit rusty, but it's coming back.
SIMPLY AMAZING! My Brother; YOU ARE SERIOUSLY TALENTED!
That's a serious NEST OF SNAKES!
Other than the sound, what HP/TQ advantages would you expect from the 180 deg design over a set of tuned racing headers?
Bill
Thanks.
I'm not expecting an increase in power, only a close equivalent to a quality set of off the shelf headers. With the long primaries I have planned, a boost in mid range torque could be expected and hopefully without loosing more than a few top end ponies.
Sounds so very nice but not quite what I'm striving for. I'm thinking more along the lines of angles singing of their pure joy as they witness the glory of 1:30 second lap around Mid Ohio.
You were on the right track there. Those Lego style header mock up plastic bricks are awesome, if I built more than one set of headers every two years I would have some of my own.
No one makes a 3 1/2" x 2 1/8" oval to 2 3/4" round transition let alone one flat on two sides. So, sheet metal, portaband, 4 1/2" angle grinder and press brake go to work.
Tacked up and ready to weld to the oval mandrel bends that begin the transition from stacked collectors to side by side pipes that will then transition to the X pipe.
If anyone reading this is understanding how this will happen, I feel for you because your mind might be as twisted as mine. For those that have no idea what is about to happen, good for you. It shall become clear soon.
I love everything happening with this project. Cant wait to see and hear the final product. Was going to build a set for my 911 after I swapped in an LS1 but decided to keep it period correct. Keep up the good work.
I was worried about ground clearance with the stacked pipes but all looks to be okay. They lower pipe is level with the seat rail brackets, slightly lower than the floor itself.
Back to the bench to get the side by side action happening. Beer can bottoms make excellent purge caps.
I should have this section of the exhaust complete by the end of the weekend and finally be back to square 1
Just for no reason at all some people are wondering if there might be another way to accomplish this. Well, not this exactly, but something that adds up to the same thing.
What would be required to change the firing order so that each cylinder fires through factory headers in the same order that these spaghetti-tubes accomplish?
I am guessing that it would require ..... a few things....., included custom crank, custom cams, and ..... what else?
Would not be cheap, but it would be less than buying and maintaining most Ferraris.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
