Default slight vibration

Been trying to find this slight vibration that comes on around 60 mph. I've read other members are having same problem. Had tires rebalanced with no change. So tonight I left car in park and slowly increased rpm and there it was around 1800-2000 rpm just the normal highway speed that you run. Been reading so much about the harmonic balancer going bad on these models. Wonder if that could be the cause. Car has 85000 on it. Please don't come up and say to drive faster!!!!!!!. Just trying to solve this problem. Thanks

Watched it while running. It has a very little slight wobble which is most likely on the way out

WOW!! That could be several different things!

Need a LOT more info!!!

Automatic or MN6 Transmission

If MN6, has the CLUTCH ever been replaced??????
If you depress the CLUTCH Peddle does it still vibrate??

Torque Tube: Could be a bad bearing or coupler in the TT.
If its a MN6, Depress the clutch,,,, trans in some gear and see if it still has the same vibrations.

If its an auto, the TT spins all the time so,,,,,, that could be TT related.

Unless your Balancer ring is really wobbling, I would have to say that it is most likely not the issue BUT, I would still change it for a better aftermarket balancer.

I had a similar issue. In park, vibration seemed to kick in about 1800-2000 rpm and on the freeway at about 65-70 mph. Since it's an a4, I started thinking torque tube. But I decided to take off the serpentine belt and it went away. Tested with a different alt, no joy. Then removed the water pump, put it in a vise and spun it with air. Vibrated the whole bench. Replaced it and now I'm a happy camper. Of course mine might have been a fluke.

I agree with previous post...check all driven components (driven by engine) most probable would be water pump. I had same issue at same rpm on my C3 and it was water pump with no leaks either. Good luck.

Ill be keeping an eye on this thread as I have been chasing the same issue on my 97 M6. Slight wobble on the balancer and vibration around 2000rpm. Also has a slight studder at idle, I'm thinking a fuel injector...maybe? Just did plugs and wires so I can rule that out. ANd the shke in the driveline as well. Had tires balanced, changed torque tube bushings. Gonna rip it back apart and replace the bearings. As I chase down the issues I'll post my findings as it may help someone else out.

Something else to examine are the engine mounts. They ROT and the fluid that is inside leaks out.

If you power brake the drivetrain and the watch the drivers side mount, If its bad, it will extend a lot or seperate.

Thanks for all the good information. Looks like a trial and error situation. Maybe it will get worse and be easier to find. The process of elimination could take some time and work. Probably an easy fix if I find the problem. When I do I will post the fix.

That is exactly how I found my waterpump being the culprit, lol.

The waterpump was causing the vibration? Wow. I'll have to check that as well.
