I would never attempt to rebuild or re gear a C5/C6 rear diff----They are very complicated and not forgiving at all---If the tolerances are not perfect--they will whine or howl and not last very long- I am a lifelong car guy who does all my own work---But everyone whom I have spoken to who did their own diffs ended up taking them out again and had a professional re do it again correctly without issues
There are several people here that have SUCCESSFULLY serviced and rebuilt their own differentials. HOWEVER, they had ALL the required SPECIAL TOOLS and technical experience to perform all the required testing and set ups that are required to do it correctly..
Apart from the special tools, you will need all the shims that are requires to set up the bearing clearances, back lash, pinion depth and Pinion preload. It not just a simple shim kit. Its an EXPENSIVE shim set that you have to special order. You may only use a couple of shims out of the entire set OR you may need to order two sets.
NOTHING is impossible, its just how much money do you want to spend to do this ONE rebuild. OR How much time & MONEY do you have to do it TWICE, or THREE TIMES.
I do ALL my own work and even have the required KENT/MOORE differential set up tools but, unless I had experienced help to do the job, I would most likely just send it to Rick Kim @ RKT56

Thanks for posting that link - saved it for future reference. But I agree, I'd take mine to a pro and let them do the work - I do not have that kind of expertise.
