Default $161 Radiator Installed

'99 with 110k. Just finished the winter project which was made necessary because of the front cover seal leaking.

Replaced the OE radiator because of known cooling issues (car will see track time) and I was in there anyway.

Bought this radiator. 2 Rows/Dual cores. The tank is twice as wide as the OE version. Welds look great. The mounting tangs for fans and condenser are in the right location and thick enough to carry the load; however, they are easily bent.

All hose fittings are correct and it comes with fittings for the oil cooler on the passenger's side.

The only modification required is to cut off the 2 tabs welded to the top of the radiator and one on the bottom driver's side. I cut off at the weld peak and it fit perfectly. You use the original rubber mount on the driver's side and one is provided to insulate the passenger side stud. The radiator took almost 1 gallon more of coolant than the original.

After a couple of test drives everything sealed up and temps were about 10 degrees lower than before. I have not driven in stop and go traffic yet.

PM me for any other info needed.

Marc

Neat. So which radiator is this? Is there a link to a store or anything?

Another data point. I had the car in the garage, warmed up to 180 to charge the AC system which was replaced while I was doing the front cover seal. It took about 40 minutes to charge the system and check the pressures before, during and after the system was filled during which time the car was idling.

The garage door was open about half way and the DIC never showed a temp higher than 192. The fans did not come on during the entire process.

I wish I would have gotten this when I replaced mine.
Wherever it is made at least the housing isn't made of plastic.

That's what drew me to it also; besides the aluminum being a stronger material, its surface area also removes more heat than plastic.

There are a lot of people who think that the parts on this car are made in the US. Most of the parts on this car were made overseas. I cannot count how many genuine GM parts I have ordered that say "made in China".

Since it has been a few months now, I'm curious to see how this radiator is treating you OP. I'm going to be replacing mine sooner than later.

Alls good so far. Yesterday it was 95 and during the commute home which is non-highway, with A/C on the entire time, temp never went above 198.

Sitting in parking lot, 98 degrees waiting for a lacrosse game with AC on temp staying at 207. Oil at 219.

Looks like the radiator is no longer in stock/no longer $161 unless someone has found a comparable one at a similar price point. I noticed Rockauto.com had some aluminum radiators at good prices.

I just checked the auction site as well. Bummer that it's currently unavailable. Wonder if they will restock at the $161 price point?

The same radiator is being sold by other vendors. Just search for C5 radiator.

I don't think that radiator is setup for an "oil cooler" those are most likely automatic transmission cooler line hookups.

Looks good otherwise
