I tried last year to put together a set of Auto trans cooler line adapters to fit a Dewitt's that I had in my 99 into my 03.
I never found a reasonable solution So I sold my used Dewitts.
I would like to put an all aluminum rad in my 03 but so far the only one I have found that actually has the correct size Auto trans cooler line ports is a brand new Dewitts that is just too pricey for me at present.
My '02 has the quick disconnect fittings for the A4 trans lines. The thread type is different in earlier models. I don't recall the specific details but I remember there being plenty of information on the forum when I searched it.
If you have a M6 I don't think it matters.
Can anyone confirm the $161 one fits my 04 m6 no problem?
Okay, I just remembered that the radiator comes with fittings, picture attached.
The internal thread of the radiator cooler is 1/2 x 20 USF. As you can see from the fitting the radiator bung is looking for a flared end.
The female side of the fitting looks like (guessing here) it accepts the male end of the newer quick connect fittings.
Hope this helps.
Marc
Marc,
Thanks, this helps a lot!
But I doubt the female end will accept the newer 02-04 "Quick Disconnect" directly as those do not have a male threaded connector..........unless the adapter is meant to accept the OEM male fitting already threaded into the 02-04 radiators that then accepts the Quick D flared fitting.
I would post a pic of that male fitting but to do so I would need to pull the top off the shroud to do so. Wish I knew the thread specs on that OEM male fitting.
But I ordered the rad anyway. If I can't get it to fit the A4 lines I will see if I can find a M6 owner that wants one ;^)
Actually, now that I have looked at the OE fittings for both new and old, the fittings pictured above are just for the older C5s. The larger end is 3/8" inverted flare female.
So now we know the size of the bung on the radiator and the fittings that come with the radiator.
Could you convert to the older lines (the transmission ends and lines look the same) or just cut off the quick disconnect fittings put on a male 3/8" inverted flare fitting and flare the end of the line?

But I don't have a flare tool that will do steel lines ;^(
IF I could find the thread pitch and size of the male end of the 02-04 quick disconnect female fitting that screws into the radiator ports then putting together a connector adapter may be possible.
I searched for that part and it is GM Part Number: 10301648. But so far every search I have done turns up Discontinued Part, Not Available.
Part 16
Another possibility would be to find a set of the front portion of the trans-radiator lines from a 97-01 and use those to connect to the replacement radiator.......but that is likely a very long shot.

Harbor Freight is your friend for the 1st issue
Ebay, 2 male barbs, and 4 hose clamps are your friend for the second issue.
I'm used to solving these kind of problems at the track so they work, but clearly not OE

Are you sure? The female end of that fitting looks a lot like the quick disconnect female. I measured the hole of a old late model rad with a caliper and it is about .640".

The quick disconnect female on my 03 looks like this, but silver in color
I think the fittings that come with this rad are for the 97-01 clip type disconnect
Measuring an OE radiator is not going to help here. The radiator I bought is aftermarket and the bung welded on the radiator accepts the male end of the fitting in my picture.
I am positive that the male fitting is 1/2 x 20.
The female is about 5/8" outer diameter so it probably is 3/8" thread.

Yes, I follow.
But what I was trying to figure out is if the newer 02-04 style of female disconnect might fit into the aftermarket fitting that comes with the new radiator....doubtful.
And if not, could I find an adapter to go from the 02-04 style of female disconnect's male end to either the aftermarket fitting's female or to the female bung welded on the new radiator.

Jim,
I was responding to the "are you sure" post above your post with the pictures. Sorry, you got in before I pushed the submit button.
