I am trying to figure out why this button wont work to release the hatch.
I shorted the button and I know it is not that, I took apart the waterfall and cheated the hatch latch micro and it does not work ( I know the micro works because the trunk wont open and when I cheat that micro, the trunk opens.
I also cheated the trunk switch closed and this still does not work.
My trunk opens fine with the fob.
Is there anything I can check out that is common to go with this?
Shop manuals are fairly expensive and unless you do a lot of your own maintenance beyond the basic oil and filter change are perhaps not worth the investment....
Can get the 3 volume set of service manuals on CD for $50 on ebay
Thanks, I keep checking the for sale section here, I missed one but got my eyes locked in for a used set.
When working on the car, I find it easier to have a book open.
Thanks again 8vette7, this is wacky issue, must be a ground.
do you know where the ground block is?
I did spend time at switch locations, the dam thing chimes at me if the hatch is open and I try to open the trunk, which means certain things in the circuitry is working.
Thanks again, I will have to print this out when I go back at it again. Everything else in the car is working perfectly but this and because of my nature, using the manual release bothers me.
Wish I had better news....
I removed and cleaned all of these grounds and they were all in very good to excellent condition:
101
102
103
104
201
202
301
302
401
402 is a blank, nothing grounded to it.
I get no volts at the switch either.
Would you hang this up if this was you and just use the manual release? lol
It looks like you've already covered most of the troubleshooting steps. There is a connection to the security system to prevent the tonneau cover from opening in there somewhere also. I have a 99 vert myself.

I bought this car with this issue, that battery has been disconnected numerous times, I would love to know about this security prohibiting thing
Well, I looked in my 1999 Service manuals and there is a difference in the schematics on the 99's. Specifically, there is NO connection to the security system. The earlier schematic in this thread show that connection, but on closer look, it looks like, on later models?, it just sounds the alarm if the tonneau cover is opened, so scrap the security system idea. I do have the factory trouble shooting procedure for the circuit but it involves using a GM scan tool. Let me know if interested.
One of the first thing the troubleshooting chart says is to pull the codes, looking for error codes relating to the BCM and folding top circuits. You can pull the codes without a scan tool. Somewhere there is a sticky for that.
Well, in the owners manual it does state "Also, the lid will not release if the alarm is turned on".
One thing you could or may have already tried, is putting the power windows up and hitting the tonneau release button. The power windows should both automatically go fully down. That might tell you if the button circuit is at least functioning.
I have no codes stored in the vechile, I did the hold down option & hit fuel 4 times.... I cleared all codes a month or two ago after fixing all the TPS sensors in the rims.
I tried doing this with windows up & down, nothing.
If I open the hatch and then try opening the trunk, it chimes, so I know some of the circuit is working.
I should be getting 12 v at the red wire when grounded properly and I am getting 0v.
I have cheated the trunk switch closed and cheated the hatch cover switch closed and I get nothing, no clicks or nothing.
