I've noticed when I dont drive my car for about 7-10 days, that when I go to start out in first there is a "clunk" when I disengage the clutch. After that it seems fine. Any idea what the problem might be? If I drive the car on a daily basis there is no problem. The car only has 1900 miles and I really dont drive the car hard (yet) except for a few WOT.
I think that C5-TECH has posted that the splines on the half-shafts where they go through the hubs, have a tendency to rust and as a result, they kinda seize and then the sudden release causes the popping.
I think he said they need to be cleaned (the splines) and coated with some anti-seize compound.
After washing the Vette and parking it for the night, I too find a clunk when starting to move the car. I believe the brake pads stick to the discs. After I started this reply I thought the front discs should also stick and they don't. I guess the C4-5 specialist is on the right track. The problem must be in the splines.
