My Cartek 427 C5R project is finally done. I picked the car up at their shop on Monday night, got my dyno chart to pin up on the garage wall (528 RWHP, 520 lb.-ft. RWT on 93 octane), and drove 840 miles to Georgia yesterday.
Needless to say, fun trip home. With 3.42 gears, that mountain of torque makes 6th gear passes from 70 mph easy, and the car only lost about 2 miles per gallon compared to the stock engine on the drive up to NJ.
Thanks to Dave, Julio, Roy and Rich for the great work! :D
Didn't you just get a new motor from Cartek in August? I think it was
a smaller one. I'm not sure if you remember that bike-rideing Philly guy,
who got a Vararam, headers, and a shifter put in on the same day they
started on your car.
Anyway, you wanted the power- now you've got it. Good luck with it!
(Ease your way up to this one, Mark. You wreck this one, and your wife
will divorce you, for sure.)
Dave at Cartek should be posting the graph ASAP. The torque curve is almost horizontal, with 440 RWT at 2500 rpm. HP peaks about 6200, with a slight drop to 6600, the recommended shift point.
Time slips will have to wait for a family decison about a cage; right now, she who must be obeyed says no way. The problem is that it's her car.
Other than the block, the pieces were all LS6 Stage 4. The cam is Cartek's most radical grind, which does idle a little like a Pro Comp car, but was OK on the trip home which included 3-4 miles of Washington Beltway stop and go traffic. The exhaust sytem is Mufflex 3", with Cartek's 1-7/8" headers. Compression ratio is 11:1, which works fine with 93 octane gas. Other goodies include an ASP underdrive setup and the inevitable Vararam.
AWESOME!!! I had heard Cartek was working on this project, glad to hear it came out so well. 520rwtq must be beyond fun on the street. And the sound must be evil. I've heard a couple Cartek strokers with Mufflex exhaust systems and they sound like nothing else.  Can you give us some details on your C5 that this monster motor went in to? Year, bodystyle, color, etc?
Hey Now:
I am comming to Road Atlanta for the Petit LeMans Oct 8th and staying in Gainesville. Would love to meet up with you and see the car, if you have time. Just drop an e-mail or reply here to the post. Thanks. :seeya
