2001 Z06 - valve springs a problem?
I had my mechanic install a clutch bleeder line, when I picked up my 'vette he showed me these springs from another C5 corvette he just worked on. I'm inclined to replace the stock springs in my '01 Z06 as I track it often. My quick research on the subject though suggests it the '02's and on that have the problem, is that right? Should I bother?

I believe the problem was mostly involving 02-03 cars. Something about the more aggressive cam profile being harder on the valvetrain. Do a quick search, there has been ALOT of data collected about failure years and VINs. For piece of mind, you could change them, but who knows if you'll have a problem in the future. My 04 is stock and I feel relatively safe, being that failure rates are very low in 2004.

The 01 IIRC is second danger zone behind 02-03. Tracking the car... I'd do it. I bought springs and all years ago for my 04 DD, haven't got to it yet. But I don't track it.

The mechanic is ordering a more performance oriented spring kit to replace seals etc.

You're just a ways away from me, guessing you're tracking at Area 27? I'd love to, $ and time do not permit.

With the cost of new GM springs, I would replace them. Also worth noting, some work done by a known engine builder found the LS1/LS6 springs should be freshened at 70K miles or so as they have lost considerable stiffness at that point and may not be fully controlling the valves.

I met the owner of the broken springs at the track yesterday. His is a 2001 Z06 and the spring did break at the track. So, my mechanic has my spring kit on order!

The original owner of my '01 Z06 lost a valve spring but the car did run HPDEs.
If in doubt a new set of GM springs is inexpensive insurance.

Peter - I just got a 01 Z06. Did you end up going with the PAC-KS14 kit? All still good? Did you cam the car too? Thanks!

IMO if this is a regular street car, I'd put in another set of GM springs on a stock cam. If you are planning any track events, I'd call BTR and likely go with a PAC bee hive again assuming stock cam.
