Default Smoke

Hey Gentlemen
I have a 2002 ZO6 corvette. I have had a "low oil message" come on, but Chocked it up not putting enough oil in when I changed the oil myself. Let me back up a minute, I had my oil changed before and thought was the low oil sensor so I changed that out. Change oil again maybe 1500 miles since last oil change "low oil message" put quart of oil in message did not come back. Now 3 weeks later came back again? Added 1 qaurt again no message. Now when I get on it black smoke comes out of my exhaust. That tell me oil is by passing the pistons? Any help would be appreciated.

The LS6 received the new napier rings in 2002 at the start of the model year production. The LS1 received a few weeks into the production year. Black smoke is usually indicative of a rich condition.

Not sure how many miles are on the car, but the valve seals could also cause oil loss. Do you get a puff of smoke when you first start the car? If you decelerate and then step on the gas do you get blue smoke? Is the PCV working correctly? The 02 PCV system will pull quite a bit of oil into the intake, which is why a lot of guys install catch cans.

Type of oil may play into this as well, what oil are you using?

No puff of smoke on start up.
I will check the PCV system. I use mobile oil . Thanks for info will do the PCV check first. along the line no oil spots.on floor. so I know its not leaking.
