Anyone have any personal/technical experience with the ATI 25% UD balancer? My question really is if the 25% UD has any less harmonic dampening ability? Anyone know the weight difference between the 10% and 25%? Interesting that the 25% version is about $50 less than the 10%. Can't be much difference in material cost.
I called ATI and that was the most useless tech call I've ever had. The guy was polite but stated he'd only worked there for about a week and basically just read the catalog notes back to me. So frustrating that for one of the most expensive balancers on the market you can't get decent tech support.
Forum search showed a few older threads suggesting that the 25% UD was ok for under 500rwhp. I'll be lower 400's so in theory that should be fine.
My ASP balancer was 25% I believe and I had no issues that I'm aware of. (was on the car when I got it, so never had a stock balancer to compare with). And for track/HPDE use, slowing down the p/s pump can help prevent over heating the ps fluid.
I bought my 10% UD at Carlisle many years ago. At the time, the booth was manned by one of their techs. He told me ATI "would never go to 25% UD because it greatly reduced the capability of the harmonic damper". I think they gave in to sales pressure. I would personally go with the 10% myself, the amount of performance gain is in the noise.
I understood most would only go 25% with an electric water pump on a mostly track car.
I would run 10% on a street car. I like the idea of under driving the power steering pump for HPDEs. Turn One does offer an aftermarket pulley but they do not list if it is an under drive pulley. It is nice to change to the C6 pulley or an aftermarket pulley for ease of access to bolts when pulling the accessory bracket.
