LOL!! You are NOT going to find a MAGIC BATTERY that will last for 15 years.

The secret to a SUCCESSFUL C5/C6 battery is getting a battery with the correct RESERVE CAPACITY.

Getting a 1200 AMP battery is also NOT the answer! Unless you live in the ARTIC.

All you need is a 500 CCA and 110-120 RC as a minimun.... I usually install a 600-650 CCA and look for something with 120 Reserve capacity!

The 120 Reserve capacity is IMPORTANT because, the BCM, PCM and some other modules always draw some current from the battery even when the car is shut down.
That value is measured in Milliamps. The ma value is 20ma-25ma.

That 120 Reserve capacity will allow the car to sit idle for 1-2 Months and still be able to crank and start the engine if the cars electrical system is working as designed.

IF, you install some accessories or have something in the car that improperly shuts down (draws excessive current) it will KILL any battery in short order.

The OWNERS MANUAL STATES; If you need to store the C5 for an EXTENDED LENGTH OF TIME,,,,,,,, Disconnect and remove the battery. It WILL NOT damage the car if you store it without a battery!

If you need to store the car for an extended perior (Over the Winter), disconnect the battery OR invest in a SMART Charger that will keep the battery topped off and wont COOK it. (example= CTEK)

So, an ANSWER to your question: Get a good premium battery with the correct specs and you cant go wrong.

YES!!

Walmart , COSCO, Sears, Autozone, Advance O Relies ect. Batteries work just fine.

AGM or Standard ole Lead Acid??

AGM batteries are great! They don't leak but,,, They require a different charging routine and DO NOT like to run FLAT.

The new standard Lead Acid Batteries are fine and that is what I have been running without issue.

RED TOPS. WAYYYYYYYYYYYY more expensive than I care to spend for a Damn battery and they will NOT provide you any more protection against a dead battery than a local Five & Dime Conner Store battery will that has the same specs.

Get a good Premium battery with the correct specs and when you install it, do your self a favor and see what you're Sleep Current Draw is when the car is in sleep/security mode.

thanks to all who took the time to read my post and big thanks to those who replied. this is the third battery and happens to be a red top i purchased from pep boys june 2012.I started to think along the same lines as Bill that maybe a good quality battery might be just as good and with the savings purchase a charger from CCA. thanks again for the help. larry
