A successful electrical problem fix
Hello from Kansas City! I have a really well preserved Torch Red Coupe. That is to say the previous owner kept it garaged for me so that I could make it a daily driver for 8 months a year. Hate me if you have to, but I'm a believer of they were designed to be driven. But maintained, thoroughly.
Anyways, it had started throwing a myriad of codes both historic and current. Mostly communication problems between modules, and occasionally it would throw ABS, ACTIVE HANDLING. But if I turned it off and restarted it it went away and ran great. One day I got caught in a pretty good rain on the way home. We all know the C5 is "rain resistant" at best. It shut off completely twice while on the highway in the rain. I quickly restarted it before I would lose powersteering and ****. Got it home safely where I garaged it for a week and let it completely dry. I figured something had just gotten very wet.
Then it stopped starting.....
Re did all of the grounding, nothing
Good battery
Good starter
Good alternator.
.... ignition switch
In the end an hour or two of grounding repair (for future,I suppose), a $70 dollar part and an hour install and everything is beautiful again.
This seems to be a common problem and it almost left me stranded. But it's an easy fix if you can get it diagnosed soon enough. The car runs great again all is well in the world, again.
