I've noticed on other (newer) hardtop and convertible cars that the side windows will open slightly when you open the door and then close fully when you close the door. This is obviously to provide for a better seal between the window and the weatherstripping and to prevent damage to the weatherstripping. This is probably just a few lines of code in the car's computer. I doubt that there's any special hardware involved.
I have been doing this manually in my 1999 C5 convertible because it seemed to prevent some leaks. Leaks have always been an issue with this car. There are no big leaks just intermittent dripping.
I have the Window Valet installed in my car which allows me to open and close the windows with the key fob and it just occurred to me that perhaps this device could also provide the functionality described above. Is there anyone who knows enough about it to answer whether this is even feasible?

my mustang convertible had this function and i am very familar with it. the top was designed so the window would go up further into the top so the only way to open the door was if the window dropped down. the benefit of this was due to the design of the convertible top that allowed the window to be raised higher into the frame cavity. there was a system to recalibrate this raising if the power was ever lost or for battery failure.

what i have noticed is this.....my car has the top down all the time EXCEPT for at work in the parking garage then i raise it but do not clamp it down....i do this just to keep dirt out since its pretty secure parking. so if my passenger door is open it does not close it hangs up on the fabric top .....if the top is clamped down it closes easily .....pushing down on the front of the top picks up that back corner area. drivers side it doesnt matter.
if the door is closed its not issue.
are people happy with the window valet? crawling back in the car with the top up to close the windows is pretty lame.

Meh.
Just installed it for this reason. The instructions suck, are repetitive and sans clarification, despite looking quite simple. My '02's DIC doesn't fully respond as listed.
Despite listing more features, the only functionality I got is the RC windows ops, which may not be enough value for its cost.

I am guessing GM engineers thought it unnecessary on the C5's. I have a vert and think it is fine without.
As I understand it, having the windows drop a little allows for the window to be in a channel when in the full up position. There is no need for the blow out clips that are used on the C5. I would much prefer to have the channels than blow out clips to keep my windows closed at high speed.
My BMW 850 dropped the window when door handle was raised. The reported purpose for the design was much better seal atop the coupe's door glass in the channel while driving. That car would also auto-roll-up those windows above 90 mph.

This is the reply from Michael F., President of Top Down:
Note that the tachometer or speedometer needle will move to give you feedback each time a key input is recognized by the Window Valet because no menu text will be displayed.
To enable the handbrake option:
1) Press and hold reset. Tap unlock on the driver door panel. Release reset.
2) Press 4.
3) Press 2.
4) Press 2.
For the feature to work, the ignition switch may need to be in the on or run position for the body control module to report the handbrake position to the Window Valet.
Test: Turn the key to the full on position. Lock the doors. Set and release the handbrake.
If the feature still will not work, we can call and trouble shoot with you live.
The dash needles always did respond, though confirmation feedback was sketchy; only sure way was to try the functions from a cold car. When I switched on the car and pulled the hand brake, the doors did unlock, following the above steps.
Nice to get support from the maker, who also offered to call.

My vert top fabric catches on the passenger door even after I lock the roof. I adjusted it per instructions here on Forum. That fixed the drivers side only.
And the roof pings when I start off-- like it's too tight? The outside seams are separating. I don't know if that's from its 20 year age or from this adjustment I made last year when I bought it.
