In process of installing new power bond balancer on my 2000. New balancer has a keyway. The crankshaft doesn't. How do I know which way it goes on. I kinda old school and thought all cranks had a keyway

just put it on, orientation doesn't matter... ls cranks don't have a keyway unless they are aftermarket

LOL!! It doesnt matter BUT,, I have enough Mods that I wanter to be sure that the dampener did NOT rotate on the crank. I added a Pin in the dampner/crank to make ure that there was NO dampener rotation. I also used an ARP Bolt
Use the correct LS dampener bolt tightening procedure and you will be GOOD to GO!!! Get a good aftermarket dampener like the PowerBond.

I have the ATI and pinned it as well. One thing I did since the ATI has degree markings was to set the crank at TDC for #1 and then tried to align the zero degree mark on my damper as close to 12 o'clock as I could by eye. Helps with other tasks such as rocker installation, etc.
If the damper has a key, it lends itself very well to the ATI pin kit.
