Default Reducing drone

I am looking at ways to reduce drone, mod list below:
  1. Cam
  2. Headers (race pipe)
  3. Blower
  4. Heads
  5. Borla Stingers
Has anyone added resonators right after the x-pipe on both banks? Did it help?

Looking at two of these:
Amazon Amazon

The drone is terrible 52-63 mph

Pretty sure the Borla's are the problem. You appear to have several good performance mods. Never heard of anyone adding the resonators but it might work. The stingers have very minimal mufflers (unless you have the newer Type II stingers) and combined with the cam, headers and blower, it's gonna be letting you know it's there. The rumble from the Stingers are nice, but the drone can be tough. I have much the same issue with my Flowmasters on a high HP motor but I love the sound. Fortunately for me, most of my driving is streets (under 50mph) or highway (at or slightly above 70mph). Maybe someone else can chime in and answer the resonator question. Alternative might be a Corsa or a stock Titanium Z catback. Have heard good things with Magnaflow too.

I agree, I think the borla's are the bulk of the issue... with all those mods it obviously isn't going to be stealth quiet but the right exhaust can greatly help drone inside the car... I am modded similar to yours and the car is pretty loud on the outside but if I roll the windows up it isn't anything like it is on the outside... corsa does a really good job of keeping the cabin noise down, I have the xtremes on my car

I did the Z06 titanium exhaust for that exact reason, no drone. Ditch the Borla's.

Borla Stingers, only one way to reduce/eliminate drone..................shut the car off.

mine was basically like yours....learn to live with it or go to Corsas

I just turned up the radio and didn't care

Good advice given.
the stingers are going to drone... Esp with headers, no cats & cam
You'll need a "quieter" system to get rid of the drone..
I don't think resonators will solve the drone.. Just knock down the
Level of the sound at all rpms

I was thinking the consensus would be ditch the borlas Sometimes turning the radio up is enough, but others its like OMG. Plus I want to introduce my son to boost next year, he will be 3 so cutting the noise down in the cabin would be ideal. I already have the "premium" vettenuts noise blocker stuff, it helped a little.

apparently a closed pipe before the muffler will eliminate drone a certain engine speeds, depending on its lenghth. i believe there is a thread even on this site showing what lengths work for what rpm. might be less expensive than a new exhaust.

Can the Borlas and get the Corsa Extreme set-up. I will sound aggressive but without the annoying drone. I replaced my Borla's with the Corsa Sport Cat Back along with the Corsa X Pipe and couldn't be happier !

I agree that the Borlas are the culprit here. If you want to significantly reduce or eliminate that drone, find another car back exhaust system. I have the Corsa Indy Pace car system on mine and there is no drone.

Hello Everyone,

When the C5 Corvette first came out, we released aggressive sounding systems for it, but they did drone... They were very popular systems, however, we recognized the fact that a lot of our customers wanted an aggressive sounding system that did NOT drone. That said, in 2011, we went back and designed new systems for the C5 using newer technology to eliminate the drone. This newer technology is what we now use in all of our exhaust systems.

If you take a look at what we offer for the C5 on our website, you will see "S-Type Classic" systems, an "S-Type II" system, & an "ATAK" system... https://www.borla.com/chevy-corvette...haust-systems/

S-Type Classic = Older Systems
S-Type II = Newer System (NO drone)
ATAK = Newer System (NO drone)

We still sell the "S-Type Classic" systems because they are still popular, but we always recommend the "S-Type II" & "ATAK" systems to those that do NOT want drone.

Customer satisfaction is very important to us and so is addressing drone. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 1-877-462-6752 (Monday-Friday 7:30am-4pm PST).

Thank you for your time.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are experiencing drone. What I said before should apply to the C6 as well... Which system do you have? Do you know the part #?

Not sure this will be helpful since the part is discontinued, but Borla made a muffled/resonated x-pipe that went along with their old XR-1 system: https://www.borla.com/products/c5_co...rt__60061.html
I picked up a used one when I was getting a little too much drone from my Magnaflow exhaust. It knocked out the drone significantly, not perfect, but about an 80% reduction, which made the car much more enjoyable. As other posters have mentioned, the only 100% solution is to get different mufflers.

I also have drone with my magnaflows, I do have the factory H pipe. I'm thinking about switching to an X pipe if I read enough positive comments.

I had a built LS3 416 stroker with a big cam, headers and X-pipe in my C5 and even with all that it didn't drone with the Ti Z06 catback.
