Default This missing part is called what?

Hello Corvette forum. This is my first post. It's not my first question though, just the first question I couldn't answer with a search. There isn't much that hasn't already been discussed about the C5.

A little background since this is my first post. Car is a '04 Z06 Z16. I bought it about two months ago from another Corvette forum member. Flew out to Altanta and drove it home to the Chicago suburbs.

I know you guys like a picture on a first post, so let's get that out of the way. Pretty much stock CE Z06. ARH headers, RPM Stage V transmission rebuild, recent clutch and a tune. The car is in awesome shape and I love it. I plan to drive it on nice days, and definitely take it to HPDE's at Autobahn Country Club near where I live. Maybe do some solo with it also.

About the only thing 'wrong' with it is that it appears to be missing a plastic air deflector from underneath the car. Passenger's side has it, driver's side seems like it should have it. Anyone know what this piece is called and if it's available? Below is a picture of the piece on the passenger side, and the hole where I think the same thing should be on the driver's side (well... a mirror image of the same piece).

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Me too!

By the description given I thought he was referring to this, but when I looked at the pictures I was not sure anymore.

OK, so the plastic piece is 'pointed' in the front... here's the passenger side looking from the back towards the passenger side caliper, with my red outline on it:

Here is a view from under the car, looking up and back. You can see the 'hole' on the right (driver's side), circled, and lack of hole on the left (passenger side), circled in red.

Could it be the brake cooling duct?

The front brake cooling duct inlets are in the front fascia. These pieces are just behind the rear lower control arm mounting point (of the front suspension of course).

Here is another picture looking up into the 'hole'.

This should be blocked off. The small piece of plastic that is missing looks to be stapled in place mostly... probably why it fell off this side.

I'm not sure how else to photograph it.

there is a close out panel that goes up there, they are slightly different on each side

one has vents in it and the other doesn't ...IF these are the parts I think you are talking about

A search for 'close out panel' doesn't get me the right part. Nice try though. I don't think this would have any vents in it. The one on the other side is probably a mirror image of the part that is missing. It's curved a bit and comes to a point in the front.

I don't know how many Corvette online parts websites I've looked at and I just can't find this part called out anywhere.

Not sure if this is the part you are seeking, but the part is discontinued so you will need to find it used or possibly NOS.

That helped a lot blackbear_bob! Those 'sort-of' are the parts. But what I noticed is that just like on my car, the passenger side has this pointed extension stapled onto it (circled in red below):

But their driver's side does not (red is where this piece would be, just like on my car it's not there):

The two parts are perfect mirror images of each other EXCEPT for the part I figured was missing on my car.

So I think my question should have been "is this hole supposed to be blocked off on the driver's side like it is on the passenger side?", and the answer is "no".

I took a closer look at mine, and the driver's side doesn't have any staple holes in it which would indicate a piece used to be stapled there like the other side has. Also, on the passenger side the larger piece of plastic has 'staple 3x' engraved on it to show where the staples go.. I see no such engraving on the driver's side.

Yeah, so.. sorry to waste everyone's time... seems that the driver's side is supposed to be uncovered. I'd love to know why, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

Thanks guys.

I have noticed the same item missing under my '01 Vert. Looks pretty harmless not to be there but I never paid much attention to missing rivets or staples.

My vehicle is pretty unmolested I don't think it had it when it was new.
