My 2002 C5 convertible Vin G starts fine, idles fine, but when you apply the brake to shift into gear (Drive or reverse) the engine dies immediately when the brake is released- Any ideas/ experience with this problem? Thanks
OK, I have read the codes and here they are:
58-SDM B1001 H C
60-IPC U1176 H
99-HVAC B0046 H C
A6- SDM no communication
As for the last one, I have the seats removed to repair the power adjust motors. Is the car smart enough to know not to run if no one is in the seat and is in gear? This might be a dumb question but had to ask- Thanks
so you shift into gear and engine runs. then you get off the brake and it dies?
if so the only input the ecu is getting is from the brake switch. what could be happening? maybe the converter locks and stalls engine? just thinking aloud here.
If the converter is trying to lock at no speed, you would feel serious bucking/shudder before stalling.
If you believe it truly is the action of the brake pedal switch causing the ecm to stall the engine, a simple diagnostic would be to jumper the brake pedal switch to fool the ecm into thinking you're on the brakes. I am not familiar enough with the circuitry, but I believe that should be separate from your brake lights. If this solves your stall, the ecm could be wacky itself and further diagnostics directly at the ecm would be warranted.
I still would look into a power delivery problem to the ecm though, as in at the ignition switch.
