I am getting a noise issue in my 2000 Vert A4 118k Miles
I am original owner.. Old man miles
It started this spring at highway speeds.
It almost sounds like I have snow tires on it. It's not a vibration like
a wheel balance issue.
It's more like a bad wheel bearing noise. I Have replaced
all the wheel bearings. Tires are Hankook Evo's -- 2 years old, 3k miles.
I have done research thinking maybe torque tube couplers or bearings..
But I haven't seen anything that truly id's others symptoms with mine/
It starts about 40 mph and seems to get worse with mph.
It is NOT rpm / load dependent.. Doesn't change with putting load on left to right either.
Tires are wearing perfectly. Everything always and recently serviced correctly by me.
Ideas ?????
Just guessing but differential carrier bearings can sound like a bad wheel bearing only the noise would be more central instead of from the left or right. Good luck.
I've Alway Service the Differential quite often..
And Have done it twice in the last year. Didn't find any metal or anything suspicious
in the fluid or on the the plugs..
I don't know if anyone has experienced this with a Torque Tube Issue ???
There is just no easy way of checking the TT as far as I know.
How would one diagnose Carrier Bearing Noise/Wear ???
