Default C5 f45 simulators

I been wanting to change out my f45 selective shocks for some sport bilstiens, I I was looking into options on how to delete or trick the computer to thinking I still have these shocks and I came across these

https://m.ebay.com/itm/F45-Shock-Absorber-Bypass-Modules-2-1996-2002-Chevrolet-Corvette-C5-/301797443737

which are way cheaper than the ones on corvettemods, I'm guessing I would need to buy 2? since they come in pairs. Has anyone tried these out yet? Thank you

The sim's you talking about are only 10ohm 10watt resistors. Go to Radio shack and 4 of them

Imho, that is a pretty fair price for a plug and play option using the stock connectors. While the resistors the others shared will work, you have to clip the connectors, do a little soldering, wrap to protect them, and then tie wrap them up. This option is a little more elegant, and light years more reasonable than the ridiculously priced RTD's.

I used the resistors b/4 I had access to a Tech 2. Now I can delete all the F45/F55 garbage that some of these cars come with

If I ever need new shocks this is the way I will go.

Why not just go with the Tech 2 option?

Prefer the simplicity of the plug and play option.

The Tech 2 is plug and play
Here is how if you have never seen this...
1. Hook up Tech 2, turn car on, make sure module in the rear is plugged in. Do not unplug the rear module.
2. Use Tech 2 to delete the F45 option (F55 does not appear on the menu screen, use F45).
3. Save new configuration.
4. Do not turn car off, do not remove Tech 2. Go to the module in the rear of the car, unplug the grey connector (the widest one), leave any other plug(s) in. [leave the other 1 (F45) or 2 (F55) plugged in]
5. Turn off car, leave Tech 2 plugged in.
6. Remove remaining plugs from module in the rear of car. [never plug them back in again, if you do the F45 turns on automatically]
7. Turn car on to verify the "max speed 80 mph" is gone.
8. Unplug Tech 2.

Fine if you have a Tech 2.
Simplicity for me would be when I put new shocks on I just plug in the module. Done.

From what I have seen, the simulators don't always work. The more reliable method would be cutting off the module from the shock and just leaving it attached.

I have a clone Tech 2 in the SF Bay Area if anyone needs assistance.

PROs & CONs

SIMs make it easy to run other non electronic shocks BUT,, ALL of the other RTD stuff MUST work perfectly or the system will default and you will be speed limited to 88 mph with all the warning messages

When you DELETE the F-45 / F-55 RPO from the BCM with a tech 2, you eliminate a LOT of failure prone hardware! DELETE it and FORGET IT!

My used car came lowered with bilstien hd shocks, set up for xcross by a pro shop before it was bought off the shop floor by my previous owner, to drive out to vegas mostly.

I have always been glad the stock electronics were tuned out via the computer. I will never have to deal with any future parts or connection failures , unless the brain goes south. Not as sure about the lack of screws. It seems every trim screw that could be left off , is gone.

Go with the Tech 2 scanner method to disable the F45 option and be done with it!

I used Radio Shack resistors that I wired in place for a couple of years when I switched to Z06 shocks, but started to run into intermittent issues whereby I'd get the 80 mph limitation kicking in due to loose wiring, etc.

It is not a cool feeling having this pop up unexpectedly... and is downright dangerous under certain circumstances.

Jeff
