Default C5 Flooded

Hello everyone. I’m a new member here, but have been an avid CF reader since I bought my 2000 Convertible a few months back.

Im an idiot. I was on a 2 lane road that had flooded yesterday and after seeing some other cars drive through the water, I made the mistake of trying to do it as well. Car stalled out on me. I pushed it to the side of the road and attempted to restart with no luck. After a few tries it finally started up (with a lot of smoke/steam from exhaust). I drove it to. My destination with no further issues.

When I got back into my car, it started up but with a real harsh sound from my starter. After idling for a few minutes the CIL and REP lights came on. I was able to limp home about 15 Miles with the RPM’s not going over 1500 and top speed was 60mph. Getting a P1120 and P1221 code. Thoughts?

How deep was the water? Is the airbox stock? Could be a lot of things. Here is a thread that should help. I would first check the air filter and make sure it's not wet, that will at least indicate you didn't ingest any water.

See if this thread helps at all

If I were you, I'd do the following:

Remove the intake tube, air cleaner assembly, check for water inside the intake manifold
Pull all spark plugs
Crank over engine with plugs out
Replace plugs, change oil, hope for the best. There is a good chance you bent a rod, or worse.

You should have towed it home after it stalled the first time. Good luck!

There is a good chance it's just electrical issues since you say it ran fine after the puddle for the drive to your destination. You could try taking the electrical connectors apart and making sure they are dry or get some decent heat under the hood overnight.

What are CIL and REP lights?

I think he meant Check Engine Light and Reduced Engine Power.

I could figure out the CIL, but I don't have a REP light on my car. I do have a display that can show messages.

It's even easier when people don't make up initials for things that don't exist in the first place.

Sorry, insurance will cover if you knowingly drove through a flood. Insurance covers when things tipically happen outside your control or through the fault of others.

Let us know what you find. Hopefully it's an electrical issue as posted in the thread I referenced above that happened under the same conditions. There are several threads where someone drove into too deep of water and had the same codes, the fixes were relatively minor so hopefully you have similar issues to correct and not major mechanical repairs.

Both of those codes indicate a problem with your throttle position sensor. You probably got water into a wiring harness. I'd start by pulling every connector under the hood apart and blasting them out with electrical cleaner.

Also pull the airbox apart. You probably have a saturated air filter.

This is the first thing that I would do,if they don't want to cover it then do all these other suggestions.
