Help! Auto trans stuck??
56° today. Started up my 98 vert for a drive but it won't budge out of park. It's an automatic transmission. I turned the wheel and restarted it several times. Nothing. I just drove it to days ago.
No security light showing. Only has 30k miles.
I don't think mine requires the column lock bypass.
Any ideas?
Thanks very much!

Do you mean the shifter is stuck in park and it can't be moved from it, or it moves but the transmission remains in park?

Could be like the brake solenoid on the shifter is not releasing. I have heard people just disconnecting it and it works fine. (if that is your issue)

Try a ton of things before you throw in the flag (dealership). Things to try:
Start it up ...use the brake....try rocking it....click and fully depress the shifter release button on the shifter several times.

Is the car parked on a hill? If so have some one rock it to relieve pressure on the park pin.
If parked on a level surface, then most probably, as mentioned above, is the shift lock solenoid in the shifter. If this is the case, you can replace it or just disconnect it.

You guys are great, thanks.
I have it in a garage. Took it out for a ride two days before, then this happened. Will let you know.

If you remove this shiftlock actuator , then you should be be able to move if out of Park .
If the transmission is OK , may the solonid is stuck

Thats the best place to start...when we have a problem. Many times Google refers back to C/F.

Thanks, all. Appreciate the time you took to advise me. This one caught me off guard!
It was the solenoid.
