Hi guys!
I have a corvette c5 1998 and i am experiencing an issue with the shock absorbers. Recently i recieved a message on the dash saying service ride control, and the maximum speed is reduced to 128 km/h. The code i pull is C1711 (Shock absorber short to GND).
Has anyone experienced this before and know how to deal with it? Im not the best when it comes to searching for electrical problems. Im grateful for any advice!
Thanks
//Daniel from Sweden
That code is related to the F45 suspension control and is specifically about a problem with the Left Front shock. The F45 shocks have a solenoid that operates the shock. The C1711 is saying that the solenoid is shorted to ground. You will need to get the left front up on jackstands, remove the wheel and examine the wiring to the shocks. If it is just a wiring problem it is probably eaily repaired. But if the solenoid itelf is bad then shock replacement will most likely be necessary. F45 shocks are hugely expensive.
The wiring seemed fine.. I guess it must be the shock then.
its the actuator that connects to the shock then at that point.
suspension ride control module.
have someone with a tech2 run through the diagnostics or the stealership to make sure but if there is a new shock and the wires look good its the module. At least those are cheaper then the shock.
Thanks for the replies. So far i have cleaned some ground cables and i even installed a bypass module for f45 shock on the left front side and it still throws up the code. Next step will be to check the whole cable which i hoped i wouldnt need to do..
I replaced the actuator already, when i replaced the shock.

You will need to disconnect the shock from the connector and the main connector on the Control Module. Use an OHM Meter and do a continuity check with both wires end to end and then a check from each wire to a circuit ground.
NOTE! The wiring connector for the shock can have defective female pins and if they are spread apart and making poor contact with the male pin in the module or shock, it can give you the same shorted reading. Make sure that the female pins are NOT spread apart and that they make a FIRM GRIP on the male pin when they make contact.
That's where I would look.....
