Default TPMS cannot be deleted

I had new tires put on today and good-bye run flats. While getting
re-tired I asked the mechanic to use Tech 2 to delete the TPMS system. He said it couldn't be done on a '98. I thought it could but could be wrong. Advice?

TIA...

No, you can't delete it.

Just put the sensors in the cubby in the back and you won't get any warnings. I think that they will happily think that the car is permanently at zero mph.

Wouldn't it throw low pressure warnings?

I have heard you can seal them in a pvc pipe with a tire valve and fill it with air to fool the car. I have not tried this.

The early TPMS cost around $120 each. You could spend that and put them in. Problem solved until the batteries go dead again.

The 2001+ reciever can have the sensors turned off with a Tech2. The new reciever is around $5-600. This can be installed in your early C5.

So pick your poison.

If it was a functioning sensor why not just install it in the tire?

you can't turn them off but you can just clear the message every time you start the car...

I believe these were people with several sets of wheels and tires that would swap back and forth and didn’t want to deal with the sensors. I just went and bought new ones when I went to non run flats.

if you can find a fob receiver and key fobs from a 01-04 z06 you can swap it with yours and not have the tpms anymore.
or get 01+ from a base car and then turn it off with tech2.

there use to be a company that sold a fob receiver to get rid of the tpms but i don't think they are around anymore.i had it on my 99 frc and never had any issues with it.here is a link to my thread about it

I thought you cold disable the TMPS system by reprogramming the RPO codes in BCM with a Tech 2 .

Exactly what I do everytime I drive mine. For me it's just part of the starting the car routine like checking all the mirrors before pulling out. I check my wheels and tires visually and with an air gauge regularly.

Thanks for the suggestion. So if I can find any 2001 or later car, remove the receiver and swap it with the one in my car, and also get the 2001+key fobs, I should be able to then delete the TPMS. Can I use ANY 2001+ key fobs or must they be from the car where I get the receiver? Finally, what is the technical name of the receiver for the TPMS and key fobs?

Me too at the moment. It's slightly annoying though. I could also swear I read the active handling acts differently when there's a TPMS issue as well. I might be entirely making that up though.

It's called a remote control door lock receiver or RCDLR. You need one from a 01-04 Z06 where the TPMS is ALREADY turned off. If you put one into your 98 model year car from a non-Z06 with the TPMS active then it CAN NOT be turned off by a tech II while in your car.

There was a used parts seller that sold used Z06 modules to a few forum members who were upgrading their early model car to the newer sensors and fobs. When they installed the module there was no ability to program the tire pressure sensors. One member tried to switch the TPMS on with their TechII and there was no setting. So, the RCDLR works with the BCM somehow to turn the TPMS on and off. No 01-04 BCM means no ability to change the setting no matter what RCDLR is installed.

Any 01-04 fob can work because you can program the fob to the car.

The C5 sensors have to be rotating to transmit so putting them in a storage compartment or putting them in an aired up tube in a storage compartment doesn't work.

Yeah, that's what I've read as well. I assume it still throws an error message since the car knows it's moving and should be getting a TPMS signal.
