Default C5 Airbridge Problems

First, this is not a product brand question and these are not photos of the airbridge on my car. I want to replace my airbridge because I mucked up my airgridge trying to paint it.

My airbridge has a air temp sensor at the base of the duct where it connects to the accordion tube (See the photo). So far, all of the stock and aftermarket units I see, do not have the opening for the air temp sensor.

Question(s):
Why is my car the only one with this air temp sensor? Joking.

So far, all of the replacement units I've seen (stock and aftermarket), do not have the opening for the air temp sensor. In fact the one I just bought and arrived yesterday, also did not have the opening (dang it!). It has the flat spot where the sensor goes, but no hole. This simple thing is turning into a real bitch. Can I use an airbridge if it does not have the opening for the air temp sensor?

The other thing is, I am not using the stock intake and filter. I'm using the Rammer Vortex cold air intake (See the photo).

Couple of items about air bridges and couplers. GM designed the PCM to have firmware that counted on the accordion coupler and stock air bridge. After market systems with smooth couplers and straight air-bridge actually cause a slightly larger amount of air going through to the TB and as a results the speed of the air actually is slower because the TB opening did not change. A good tuner can work around this problem. Also many of the after-market air-bridges require you to drill a hold for the sensor.

Humm... About the sensor and its position in side the airbridge tube. All the stock airbridges have that little pump-out where the sensor goes. The pump-out reduces how far the sensor sticks out into the airflow. If I drill a hole in an aftermarket airbridge, the sensor will stick far into the airflow. Will this affect the sensors function? Yeah, I know, it's a dumb question, but I need to ask about it before drilling holes into a pretty expensive piece of kit.

I had to drill a hole in my Vararam power duct. I used the same rubber grommet from the stock air bridge, so the sensor goes as far in as before.

How well did it turn out, and are you still using that setup on your car? What year C5 is or was the car? Can you post photos?

Excellent, this is what I may have to do. Did you also relocate the MSF assembly to just before the throttle body?

Nice job, looks great!

How easy is it to get to the filter for clearing? It looks like the housing is bolted down.

Thanks.

When I bought the airbridge, it came with a really nice and large filter. I had planned to use it, until I figured out how to change the Vortex filter. The trick is to detach for airbridge from the MAS. As soon as you loosen the band connector between the airbridge and the MAS, it comes right off. Then it's just a matter of separating the filter from the MAS. You simply hold the filter by its rubber flange.

When I first tried it, I needed a second person to help.
