I have a tiny tear in the passenger inner (diff side) rubber boot on the half shaft. It has been slinging grease for a few months now.
It is possible to remove and disassemble the half shaft to replace only the boot? I did this on a Subaru and it worked like a charm. Prefer not to have to replace the entire half shaft...
Yes it is possible to remove and replace the boots. I believe the boots are no longer available from GM. I do believe there are aftermarket boots that are available.
From any dealer or from a forum supplier you are looking for part #88952506 for the outer and #88952507 for the inner. The service manual covers replacement.
The inners are discontinued, the outer ones are getting impossible to find as well, just did my outer ones in NOV. Need the crimp pliers for the band clamp
What about aftermarket replacements? I've read that the reman axles use boots that are floppy and tear because they touch stationary components. The slip-on split style are crap of course.
I wonder if I can just use some heavy duty silicone to seal the tiny hole. Saw a video where Froggy did that...
Since there is no agreed upon replacement for the boot, I'll be the guinea pig. I'll measure my factory boot tonight (the subframe is pulled out the car) and compare to the manufacturer's drawing. If it look like it'll work, I'll order one up and see how it looks.
Note: One of the Amazon reviews for this part number states that the buyer used it on his 2012 Acura TL 6 speed. Might have a chance for cross-referencing...Rockauto shows BECK/ARNLEY 1033104 {#44017TK5A51} as an available part for that car.
It's certainly worth trying until you can get around to replacing it. Be sure to get the boot very clean to get the silicone to stick.

I would NOT recommend silicone seal. While you definitely need to clean the area well, I think you will get much better results with urethane sealant (NOT polyurethane). It is available as windshield sealant, so it will be black. I have used the 3M marine seal (which is a urethane) and it outperforms Silicone seal for almost any application (IMO)
I used this on my cut boot, I cleaned it very well with rubbing alcohol, put on the sealant and let it sit for a couple days, have about 2k miles on it and holding up fine. I have the factory repair kit on hand. http://www.bowessealfast.com/p-579-p...YaAn1BEALw_wcB
