Bushings are rubber. Like tires they get worse with or without use. At 52k miles my 99s bushings (nearly 20 years old) were well past needing replacement.
I replace Control Arm all around and noticed and immediate improvement had to have the car aligned afterwards and it tracked straight as an arrow under hard acceleration. It was hard work doing it all my self a but it was not to expensive, all the bushings and sway bar links only came to just over $200 and I was able to rent most of the tools needed from Advance Auto Parts.
