When I’m sitting at a red light, I can feel the car rockin’ back and forth. When I raise the hood, I see the beltt spinning and the engine rockin’ back and forth. Is this normal? I have a ‘97 automatic. I know it”s a big engine. It’s not a huge rockin’ motion but noticeable.
Thanks

With the engine running, open the hood, on the passenger side, look at your "harmonic balancer"....outside of spinning, should not be moving (much). If it is doing a wobble, you have a problem.

yes it's very common... the stock mounts don't do a very good job of keeping the engine stable which also contributes to wheelhop... put in a good set of aftermarket mounts and that will keep the engine solid

I replaced mine with Hinson engine (and transmission) mounts and now very steady.

A little bit of rocking of the engine is normal. If it is really moving a lot, the engine mounts may be bad.
Considering that your car is now 20+ years old. It may be time for a new set of mounts.
I would just stick with stock mounts. Aftermarket mounts tend to be much stiffer and will transmit more vibration to the cab and to you.

my pfadt engine mounts didn't make any more noise than stock and are still doing their job after the past 7 years or so... I ran pfadt's diff mount as well and had the same results, I only removed it because I swapped in a c6 drivetrain and it wouldn't work anymore
