MAN,,,,, That's a VERY vague question...

So,, what are you GOALS for this transmission?
How do you drive your car???
What mods do you ever plan to do down the road???
How much do you want to spend?

Transmission modifications come in several STAGES Stage 1, 2 3 & 4

Stage 1 is just like yours and Stage 4 is full out racing.

When you up-grade/rebuild an A4 transmission, there are several internal IMPROVEMENTS/UPGRADES that should be done to any A4 build to improve it longevity.

Are you going to have it rebuilt locally (by whom? ) or are you going to ship it to someone that does it professionally?

Some questions to ponder and answer...

I have a vararam cai, cam, full exhaust, and tune. Close to 400 whp. Im interested in adding F.I. At some point. I think I will be happy between 500 and 600whp. I want to fix it right but if I spend to much more I might have to wear ear plugs at home.

I drive easy but I want to be able to step on it occasionally and trust that im not going to get embarrassed by the car beside me because my trans slips. Thanks for the time.

call/pm RPM, they can build you a stout auto that will hold power but it won't be cheap

If you want it done right, you have to spend the cash. Save the funds and when you have it all together get what needs to do the job.

You need a stage 3 or 4. If you are interested, I know who can build it right for you..

Remember,, Once you make MORE POWER, you have to get it to the ground and get it done SMOOTHLY.

Im making 450 RWHP and I did ALL I COULD to keep the drive train together.

T-60/60 MN12 conversion, Hardened trans output shaft, C6 Differential internal up-grade, C5 ZO6 shocks, Wider sticky tires. She grips and goes really well.

What gears and converter are you going to run??

If its having shifting issues at WOT, be more vague please.

What problem Not shifting? shifting late? slipping?

answering those question can let you know if there is a trans problem, or a tune problem.

I also have an 01 Auto, no cam but full exhaust, vararam, e.t.c and in OD I have it set to shift at 5800 so WOT it shifts at 6K. If I have it in 1st, 2nd, or third, it will not shift out and will hit redline and stay there til I manually click it to the next gear

That's what I eventually did. Had my tuner install headers, heads, blower cam and supercharger. He tuned the engine to achieve about 520 rwhp, and said that's all he'd do with a stock (auto) transmission and stock bottom end. Specifically he said the stock transmission wouldn't withstand the additional torque.

So I ordered an RPM Level VI. Tuner installed it, and then tuned the engine to achieve 600 rwhp and 520 lb/ft of torque. Again, the tuner said he wouldn't be more aggressive with the tune unless I forged bottom end. We debated that...I determined that forging the internals would come close to the same expense as buying an LSX block. Since I wasn't going to race the car, I ultimately did nothing.

So why did I do all of the upgrading? [My wife asked me this question, and then asked it again...emphatically...after she saw how much I'd spent.] Easy answers: because I could, and because I wanted to.

I'm a happy camper.

I mean I knew, going in, that I'd never get back even $0.10 on the dollar for the power upgrades. But then, neither can I get back $0.10 on the dollar for what I've spend on my bride during our 40 years of marriage. And I don't intend to trade in either of them for a newer model.

Well a bit of good news, I changed the trans filter and put 5 qrts of new fluid in. For now, the problem is gone and the trans seems to be good as new. I do wonder if I should take the car back to the shop and have the trans tuned (shift points, pressure, ect.) or should I leave it alone and be thankful it is shifting properly? The mechanic said he would tune it for free since it was part of the package that I already purchased. Is it worth the risk? I plan on upgrading at some point before F.I. Install regardless but now I have time to research and save. Thanks

It would not shift from first to second at wot and it seemed like there was some slipping when down shifting into first at wot. It seemed like it was shifting into first, when i punched it, at a higher rpm than it should have. Like it should have went to second instead.

It was put back to stock trans tune before I changed the filter.
