Default oil leak

found a oil leak looks like its the crank seal. Does anyone have any idea how much a shop would charge to fix it. I guess approx. number of hours of labor. Car has 91000 miles on it and should I replace the balancer or do they seam to last?

By your info I'm assuming that you are referring to the front seal behind the harmonic balancer (HB). Have you had it up on a lift to confirm that it's the seal? Did you wipe off the timing chain cover and rule it out? Make absolutely sure of the items to be removed/replaced because you only want to do this once.

Absolutely change the HB with a PowerBond or other high quality HB. The GM HBs are not known for their reliability. Also purchase a new ARP bolt because the old one is toast when it comes out (designed that way by GM). I had these items replaced earlier this year and my car had 59K. My HB was wobbling badly. The labor will vary wildly based on where you live and by the mechanical shop that does the work --- my bill for labor for this part of the items that I had done was a bit over $600 which equates to approx. 6 to 7 hours.

I purchased the parts needed from Summit Racing. They were very helpful when I called for advise. The mechanic didn't mind putting in the aftermarket parts that I provided because he agreed that GM HBs are unreliable.

thanks for for the info. Took it to two different shops and price is considerably different. Going in Thursday to get fixed. Yes it is the front crank seal. But while apart replacing everything. Crank seal, timing cover gasket, upper pan gasket, water pump, 165 thermostat. $1400 for parts and labor. Another local shop was close to 2200. Now I’m going to add a ac compressor ughhhh clutch started to rattle real bad. New harmonic balancer and new tensioner pully’s. Only going to pay for labor once if I can help it.
