Default C5 bogs down when accelerating

This is my first corvette and I am learning about it as I go. It's a 1999 6 speed manual. and have owned it about 3 months. When driving, my car bogs down real bad. Sometimes it's when I get on it and other times just when I am cruising. Happens alot around 3k rpms but it varies too. I cant figure out what is wrong. I have changed plugs and wires and still the same. Mods are a k&n CAI, and a borla exhaust. Stock headers. I believe it may be a fuel issue but I dont smell fuel when driving and there is no black smoke out of the exhaust. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

I'm assuming your K&N filter is one that you oil. Did your symptoms start recently? (Like after servicing the air filter?). How is the car idling?

I would consider cleaning the MAF (with correct cleaner) and checking all connections from the air filter to the intake manifold.

Have you checked for any codes? If you do find some, post them up. Make sure to include the H, C, or HC.

Check your fuel pressure at the Schrader valve. You may have a weakening fuel pump or your fuel filter may need to che changed.

Congrats on the new Vette!

yes it is the one that needs oiled. It was bogging down when I was on my way home from buying it. Funny it didnt do it during lengthy test drive. I cleaned and oiled the filter and already cleaned the MAF and checked all connections with the CAI. It idles perfect. Only issue is with acceleration
I have no checked the codes. No CEL is on and dont trust autozone code readers

thanks!
I'll do that. I'm almost positive it is something to do with the fuel pump or filter. People keep telling me to get bigger injectors but I dont want to do something that doesn't need done

You absolutely do not need bigger injectors.

Congrats on your purchase !!
Do you own a scan tool ???...if so I can help interpret what the scan tool is telling you...if not you’ll probably just have to fire the “parts cannon”....as other had mentioned I’d check fuel rail pressure with KOEO and then at idle...at idle with snap acceleration the pressure should not drop...could be a dirty MAF sensor...you can disconnect it and see if it bogs down....give it a shot !!

I dont own a scanning tool but it looks like something I should probably finally buy. I unhooked the MAF with the car running and it didnt idle any different than when it was connected. Made my CEL turn on though

Yes, you DEFINITELY need to get one. The money you save on changing UNNEEDED parts will pay for the tool outright !!...I’d be looking at fuel trims and O2’s to see what’s going on...with the MAF disconnected run it up to where you had the bog....not just idle. You’re CEL will come on with it disconnected...no big deal with that !!...keep advised !!

Another vote for the fuel filter. It gets neglected on these cars quite a bit as they aren't easy to get to. I'd bet yours has never been changed.

I'm going to change the fuel filter and MAF this weekend. Planned on changing them anyway. This just happened

Will you before checking MAF wiring before you change it ??...if it is a wiring problem and the MAF doesn’t fix what next ??....O2 sensors, plugs, wires, coils...not telling you what to do. Fuel filter does sound good before you start getting into the fuel pump...good luck !!

....also, buy a good quality filter like AC Delco, this will have the regulator built in/on the filter

I was thinking maybe a possible bad TPS sensor...maybe a TPS signal dropping out...without a scan tool it's kind of hard to diagnose and shouldn't diagnose just based on symptoms. I can run you through the electrical checks if you'd like...I made a quick video yesterday of the TPS using a lab scope but it hasn't been approved by YouTube yet...mine is a 6 wire TPS with 2 separate signal wires inside for redundancy...Let me know !!

To be clear, post title says it happens when accelerating. Does it happen just cruising also, NOT getting on it? If it only happens when you get on it, traction control could be pulling power because of wheel spin.

Sorry for the late update. Went on vacation. Before i left I cleaned the mass airflow sensor and saw massive improvements but still wasnt 100%. I ordered a new ac delco one and it was waiting for me when we got back from vacation. PROBLEM FIXED. She is running great again!!
