Default TPMS question

If a sensor is going bad, does it just quit completely, or does it give erroneous readings for a while, before dying?

I know, but it's not like my "good old days", where I had access to a tire machine, at the corner gas station, to break down the upper beads and sneak the old sensors out, and the new ones in. Believe me, if I could easily do this myself, I'd do it in a heartbeat! When you have to pay people to do things for you, it changes your outlook on things....you aren't as willing to just throw parts at a situation, and hope you guessed correctly.

I'm fortunate to have a co worker who owns an Aamco Transmission on the side and the shop is a mile from my house so I have free reign on the tire machine....as far as throwing parts at a situation I see that WAY too often on this forum...but the part stores LOVE it...LOL !!

My TPMS started showing a left rear tire flat when it was at 30 PSI. I ordered and installed 4 new sensors. My car is a 1999 so the batteries have a long life but eventually fail.

My current sensors are about 10 years old. And in my case, my RF tire starts out showing a pound, sometimes two pounds low, then after about 4-5 miles of driving, it "catches up" to the LF.

Mine is starting to give me a " Service Tire Monitoring Sys" or to the like. Then goes off. 1st time, I pulled the codes and saw it was the right front failure. Cleared the code and then a week later, came up again so I quickly went to the tire pressures on the GAUGE readout and was Getting RF XXXXXX But the LF was reading 32 psi. As was the backs. Then a few miles down the road it cleared and started reading normal. I did get a new on in this week and will change it sooner or later.

All of the above!

I had a C5 'zombie' TPMS. After it failed, it was dead for several months.. then it would wake up some days.. Readings could be off.. or exactly right... then it would die again.
