I just today installed an LED center stop light assembly on my 99 C5. I had a jack handle on the seat edge holding the pedal down to confirm it works. Once done and tail lights reinstalled, I went to drive it to see the reflection of the new light. As I started the car the message center said traction control fault. Ran the codes and got one code C1285 current. I attempted to erase it but to no avail? Is the LED 3rd brake light install the cause? I have the factory 3 volume set of manuals. Without the break out box can I determine the cause?

Well I reran the codes tonight and low and behold it's a C1295!! I would have sworn yesterday it was a C1285? All the brake lights work great. I read the factory manual and it says to test incoming voltage to the brake pedal switch. I think the low resistance of the LED 3rd light is my issue. Next Tuesday, day off, I'll plug in my stock lamp and confirm. If that cures it, do I need a resister in line to the LED light? I already have LED taillights with the load resister to the turn signal flasher.
Just to follow up on the fix, I confirmed the code went away when I plugged in the stock 3rd brake lamp. (I have LED taillights) I took one of the factory taillight sockets from my spare stock taillights and wired it ahead of the LED 3rd brake light. The code went away and all lights work great. The addition of the socket with the bulb added just enough resistance to the circuit to erase the C1295 fault! I thought I might have to add 2 sockets but one did the trick. The seller should mention this LED light will only work if the stock non LED lights are still being used. I spliced into the yellow and black wires on the 3rd light harness. Now an additional lamp illuminates when the brakes are applied but it's behind the license plate fixture and unseen.
So I’m going through this right now code C1295 and just saw NO cruise control also…I installed a LED third break light, LED side markers and LED bulbs ALL at the same time
and now I’m having the issue I figured it was either the third break light only causing it, the taillights only or BOTH combined and this confirms it’s both combined so how exactly do I put one of my taillight bulbs in the line before the brake light?
