I recently picked up a Z06 roller and have been going through to make it a decent daily driver/ toy. Fast forwarding to exhaust, it had some cheap looking offbrand setup on it that was just way too loud with my setup (6.0, 232/247 112.5 cam, longtubes, and off-road x-pipe) so I set out to get something that sounds good on it. I am a HUGE fan of doing everything myself and I do not outsource for anything except block work before assembly so I started looking at companies that make same side in/out mufflers and came across the Magnaflow 14210. From there all I did was put the tips on the new mufflers and work the 90* from the over-axle pipes into the mufflers. The last thing I have to do is remake the hanging straps when my new stainless bands get in. I realize that the majority of people are all about buying the “correct” things for our vettes but here is my alternative. I will post a before and after video tomorrow for sound but I absolutely love the low rumble and WOT sound of the magnaflow.
So about $250 for the mufflers? That is a sweet deal. And as magnaflow, I would not anticipate a big drone issue. Why not slide the tips out a tad farther and get the Tigershark effect?
Yeah, the price isn’t bad at all and I actually scored a brand new one for $50! I played around with how far out I wanted them because before I changed it up I had them out but I honestly like the flush look a lot better personally.
Cool--nice DIY job. I built the same thing a couple years ago. They droned pretty badly below 2000RPM (highway cruising speed in 6th with 3.42s). I also had catted XS Power long tubes; that may have made the drone worse. They sounded great the rest of the time, though.
Apparently the videos are too big to upload so I’ll figure it out and post later. There is definitely some drone below 2000 rpm but it is more than bearable compared to the basically straight pipes that were on it (it was a case with an inlet and outlet pipe with no baffles or packing of any sort).
I want to hear your car, might go the same route with the magnaflow 14210s. Can you find a way to play me an idle clip with couple revs? I have longtubes, with catted x pipe. and a cam.
