Can anyone advise me on what aftermarket mufflers work best on a stock 2000 c5 with an auto. trans. I'm looking for more power, and a better sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you're looking for more power mufflers won't get you there. At a stretch maybe 5HP (not noticable except perception it has more power due to being louder).
And sound being so subjective... what type of sound do you want?
A suggestion would be to find a local Corvette club or a Cars and Coffee in your area and go listen to the different exhausts to get an idea of the sound you like. This link may help you find local events https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-discussion-9/.
Almost all of the popular/standard exhausts should bolt directly to your factory mid-pipes.
I like the Billy Boat PRTs on my '99 A4. Nice strong sound at start up and when accelerating and then reasonably quiet and no drone at highway cruising speeds. The best advertisement I can probably give for this exhaust is that my wife brags others how much she likes this exhaust!

I put the Z06 Titanium system (from just in front of the rear axle) on my 2000 six speed convertible when it was completely stock , they gave it a very nice mellow but louder sound at idle and "easy" driving but when you put your foot in it they really make a nice roar , since then I have added a cam , cold air intake , longtube headers , 3' stainless catless x-pipe back to the Z06 mufflers , it is louder now but not obnoxious at low speeds and when you stand on it it is loud & proud ! Even with the motor work they are still quiet enough at highway cruising speed to have a conversation at normal voice levels . There was someone on this forum that dyno'd a 500+ engine with cutouts & then through the titaniums & only lost like 8 hp , you can find them for sale on this forum frequently relatively cheap (I bought mine for $300 in perfect shape a year ago) I couldn't be happier with the sound , hope this helps.....

You will NOT get much if any HP Improvement with a CAT BACK install. Install aftermarket mufflers for the improved sound and improved tip looks. The Stock C5 LS-1 exhaust tips just plain S U C K !!
SOUND. You have to find another car with aftermarket exhaust and the SAME TRANS and ride in it. If you like it, that's the one that you want. Remember. A car with bigger cam, better heads, higher compression WILL change the exhaust note!
That is why a ZO6 Ti Cat Back on a stock LS-1 engine really doesn't make it sound like a real ZO6. Sure there's is an improved sound but it will never sound as good as the ZO6 with an LS6 engine.
Some aftermarket Cat Back systems have horrible in cabin DRONE. Any C5 with an automatic Transmission suffers more from the drone than the MN-6 transmission cars. Avoid a system with excessive drone like the plague. You will very soon get tired of it and have to spend more money on a different system.
I added Corsa Sport Catback systen, along with a Corsa X-Pipe. Couldn't be happier.
Get a lot of compliments on how it sounds and there is absolutely NO DRONE from the system at highway speeds.
When you say no drone at highway speeds what about acceleration from a standing start as in 2000-3000 rpms?
Sounds awesome when you stomp on it and goes through the gears.
I forgot to mention in my original thread...I got the car with a Borla Attack catback system already installed and although it sounded AWESOME the drone at highway speeds gave me a splitting headache. Changed that out to a stock system and ran with that for a few years. Came across the Corsa's, installed them and couldn't be happier.
