I'm looking to purchase a 2001 6 speed in very good condition. When starting the car the "check steering column lock" light comes on. The owner says that he has never had an issue and if he hits the reset button the light goes out and no issues. Please give me some advise on this issue AND is hitting the reset a remedy?

Look at the sticky in the C5 Tech section called Steering Column Lock FAQs.
The car probably needs an LMC or some other steering lock solution. It's not a reason not to buy the car if you are the tiniest bit handy. Many of these cars have this problem and it's easily remediated. A repair shop might charge a couple-hundo to fix it. You can negotiate that off the price. If the lock situation has not been repaired, you will need to address it before it strands you.
ETA: A repair kit is maybe $50 and 15 minutes of your time.
