I bought a chinese one. It works like it's supposed to.
I don't know if it's true or not but I read somewhere where the chinese bought all the GM Tech 2 inventory and that's what we are buying from them.
Either way, it's good.
I just purchased the $300. clone on eBay. It worked great for the F55 shock delete once I was done screwing things up. The user manual disc reads fine but the TIS2000 disc for PC connection will not open with internet explorer, XP Firefox or chrome. The cable and and PC adapter plug in to laptops or desktops but none will recognize the Tech 2. Saw a video that showed a different cable that works but still think reading the disc would help.
If you are a little tech savvy, and have a laptop computer you can use, here is a much better and cheaper alternative in my opinion: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c6-corvette-general-discussion/4083280-gm-tech-2-alternative.html
The VXDIAG VCX Nano can be found for around $110 or so. You can use it with a Tech II emulator on your PC and do pretty much everything a real Tech II can do. It had many other uses besides this as well.
The VXDIAG is a good choice and basically emulates the MDI with the virtual Tech 2 and all.
I have a Chinese clone Tech 2, and it does what I need for my older GM cars. The PC software is not stellar, if you can even get it to work, but it isn't required anyway for most things you will do. If you insist on buying a genuine Bosch/Vetronix Tech II, you will be paying thousands of dollars.

I also purchased a Chinese made Tech 2. I took it to my local Chevrolet dealer and we compared it to the GM one they had. They looked almost exactly the same and seemed to perform exactly as the GM one. The real GM tech 2 had made in China mark inside it. IIRC the price through GM was over 2,000.00. I got mine from one of the Chinese companies for 275.00 shipped with/out the case. It has worked for me for going on 3 years now.
Bumping thread. Considering buying a Tech2 device for use with my C5, but also looking for functionality with my newer GM vehicles (2018 2500HD and 2019 Equinox). Are any of the options out there universally compatible?
I purchased tech 2 from Ali express. It works on newer GM vehicles up to 2013. I do not believe that any tech 2s will go any newer to 2013.
the newer tools from GM might be backwards compatible. I do not know this to be true. Someone else may know.
