Default Fuel gauge vs DIC fuel range

Does anyone know if the two are related or if they pull signals from different sources?

I ask because my car will seemingly read different fuel levels on the gauge depending on how I start the car.

Method 1:
Get in and start car right away. (This way you interrupt the initial full sweep of the needle).

Method 2:
Get in turn key over and let gauge needle sweep full then sweep back and settle on fuel level THEN start the car.

Does the DIC fuel range calculate miles based on the needle reading on the gauge? Or does it pull signal directly from something in the tank itself?

I know these cars can have potential non working or intermittent fuel gauges and IF that happens I'd like to know that I can still reference the DIC range values in the meantime.

The fuel gage uses PCM data to display fuel level information. The PCM gets/ uses data from EACH tank level sensor to calculate how much fuel is in the tanks.

The IPC receives that data and also provides a data signal to the HUD. The HUD just displays a digital representation of what the IPC receives from the PCM

Soooo the analog fuel gauge on the cluster and the digital reading on the IPC screen both use calculated information from the PCM.

I wanted to make sure that the analog fuel gauge with the needle is not supplying the IPC information or vice versa and that one is not dependent of the other.

My IPC seems to be more consistent and accurate if my analog gauge will be slow to react or read incorrectly for some reason.

The estimated remaining mileage range is based upon the analog gauge gallons signal * average fuel economy. You can verify that by reseting the average MPG and watching the range change.

Yea, perfect if the gauge works. Pulitzer prize winning fiction if not.

My gauge seems to settle +- 1/8 tank....so we will just keep it from getting below 1/4 LOL
