My Son and I are about to change out oil & filter & antifreeze
1989 C4 117,000 miles 6 speed manual
Oil was changed out last year by local garage.

My son suggests Synthetic Oil ? Any thoughts?
If so what brand & type ?
and preferences on Antifreeze? for older car bit of miles
car does run great tho
Thanks

The car was designed for and came with an OEM fill of Mobile 1 Synthetic.

The OEM Coolant was DEXCOOL and its highly recommended that you stay with the DEXCOOL or equivalent formula. It works good and performs well. Use distilled water for the flush and coolant fill.

If you have never changed the MN6 Trans fluid, it is HIGHLY recommended that you do. It uses a dino DEXTRON III ATF type trans fluid. AMSOIL makes a Torque Drive ATF that is excellent for your MN6.
A new dry MN6 takes 4 qts but the drain and fill on yours will only use 3.75 qts. You will see a better shift feel with new Trans ATF.

Change the Clutch Master Cylinder Brake Fluid. Your is most likely BLACK and NASTY. Just suck it out, wipe out the reservoir and the rubber cap and dump in some new brake fluid. It will get nasty pretty quick. Just keep changing out the fluid more often until it stays cleaner. I keep a large syringe in the garage and a bottle of brake fluid and when I'm under the hood, I just change it out.
