Hi guys, I am having trouble w/ my 2001 Z06. It has been sitting for a few months(I know you wanna know why, but thats a long answer) Anyways I charged the battery and when i turn it on everything like the lights radio etc work, but it will not turn over. It was fine the last time I drove it. Any ideas?
Is your Security light turning off before you turn the key to start the car, if it is staying on, that means a problem with the VATS, which means the resistance chip on the key is not being read.
Check your clutch safety switch, maybe its not being actuated when the clutch is depressed, could be ignition switch, and or VATS relay located in passenger footwell area. Also don't rule out battery connections at battery and starter. If proficient with DVM connect dvm to switch terminal on starter solenoid and ground and verify if 12 volts is present when you try to start the car. Hope this helps.
There is a THEFT DETERRENT RELAY in the passengers foot well. Its behind the tor board and above the BCM on the fire wall. It has FOUR WIRES, (Red, Purple, Yellow and Yellow Black stripe).
Depress the clutch, turn the key to crank. If the engine doesn't crank, pump the clutch peddle "ON & OFF" of the clutch safety switch and see if that Theft Deterrent Relay "CLICKS" each time you press and release that clutch safety switch. That will tell you if the security and low voltage control ignition circuit is functioning.
You could have the "WELL KNOWN" defective starter solenoid problem. They STICK and fail to engage the starter If you have someone turn the key to CRANK, you can BANG on the starter solenoid and see if that gets the starter to crank.
Yes the chip is a resistor that contacts in the ignition switch connect to the BCM and determine that the correct key is inserted. That's why I asked if the Security light on the dash turns off before trying to start the car, if it is staying on the car will not crank, try cleaning the chip with alcohol, spraying the ignition switch with contact cleaner, or trying a spare key if you have one.
Just went thru HELL with a no start situation. Pointed to P1518 TAC nodule. Did checks for wiring from TAC to TB, PCM, and Accelerator pedal. All looked good,
Got another TAC and replaced it. NO CHANGE. Finally replaced the electrical part of the Ignition Switch (D1499C) and the car STARTED.
Look at the Ignition Switch. PITA to remove console, and all trim panels to get to the Ignition Switch but that's what fixed my no start situation.
If you really need a TAC contact me as I have one gathering dust.
