I can't get the Blackwing to "seat" on the 4 rubber grommets. I have not tightened everthing, but it appears the large, black plastic shroud is forcing the blackwing "up", preventing it from seating on the grommets.
Man, I'm pressing just as hard as I can, but they still won't seat. :cry . Maybe it's the cld weather...only about 45 degrees out. Thinking about hooking up the wires and running it a bit to get it nice and warm in there and then push like heck.
Thanks Pewter99. They're close, but just can't get them to seat (well, I did get one to seat on the Blackwing). I don't think it's going to hurt leaving them like this for a while, do you? Everything in there seems so tight now, that I can't imagine it going anywhere.
Thanks again. I just drove it to make sure everything was intact, which it was, so I believe you're correct. I'll wrestle with it later.
Don't know if it's my imagination or not, but it sure does seem to make a difference in response. Even the Borla Stingers sound better  . Probably just my imagination getting the best of me.
As far as the Blackwing, you certainly don't have to worry about it running off anywhere. What I finally had to do was loosen the hose clamps on each end of the Blackwing while it was installed and then work the unit down flush on top of the radiator cap. Once it sat well, I tightened up the hose clamps again.
Hey, I'd watch the pushing like hell thing, I did that to mine and broke one side of the black wing mounts off. It's that fine line between pushing to hard and not enough. Good luck.
I pulled the plastic pins out of the center of the fastners, put the grommets in the blackwing, pushed the fastners (which are inserted into the grommets) down through the shroud holes, then I put the pins back into the center of the fastners....worked great!!

Good Luck!
losen it and then try to seat them then retighten, also warmer day couldn't hurt. It wont go anywhere either way, worst case the airbridge will rub against the hood liner.
I installed mine in 90+degree weather and worked like heck to get the two gromets over the radiator shroud to seat right. I left all the hose clamps loose and was only able to get the two on the filter to sit on the mounting brackets. Maybe it is the adapter for the 01-03 that is causing it. I have had mine on for about 1200 miles and not one problem. Knock on wood! Good luck! :seeya

Make sure that the ducts on both sides of the MAF sensor are fully seated as well as the end of the duct that goes into the blackwing. If they arn't fully seated, it will stop the blackwing from aligning with the grommet holes.
I had the same experience as you and most others installing the Blackwing. I loosened all the clamps and was able to finally work the air bridge gromettes into place.
I had the same problem with my 01. I finally removed the whole
assembly, loosened all the clamps, and forced everything together
as tight as I could get it. It was still tight but I was able to get the
gromets over all 4 studs.
Keep the clamps loose while you work with it, mine never did seat down all the way but close enough. Also make sure there are not any wires under it. If not seated down far enough it will rub the hoodliner and look funny. good luck
