No special harness with the new pump. I tried the horn relay and it acts the same as the new relay and the original. Just checked everything again. 12V at pin 86 but only 1.5V at 85. What would cause this?
how did you hook up the multimeter to read 1.5 volts ??????
With the red lead to battery positive and black to 85 shows 1.2V. I cleaned the opposite end of that ground strap that connects under the vacuum brake booster. I didn't think that one on the engine block needs it since I installed a 383 stroker about a year back.
That black wire connected to the ground strap on the block actually comes from SP122 (splice pack 122) and the wire from pin 85 goes to the splicepack first...it is located under the battery tray and is taped to the wire harness. You have to remove the battery and then remove the tray the battery sits on..,it has 4 bolts that hold it in...that should be checked too but you have to find where that black ground wire on the engine block is located if it is not there !!...I included a pic of my SP122...you remove the “comb” (the beige cap) and check for corrosion inside of the splice pack !!... Pin A of the splice pack comes from pin 85...pin D of the splice pack goes to the engine block which is connected to that ground strap !!
I'll check those areas asap. I feel like I'm on the brink of figuring it out. If push comes to shove can I drive it with that jumper wire in there to get it to the dealership?

if it works with the wire in place and the relay is known to be good then I'm wondering if the slots in the fuse box have spread open too far to make good contact with the relay legs... you can take an old relay apart and get one of the relay legs and insert it into each slot in the fuse box where that relay goes... you should feel some resistance and if it just slides right in and out then it's loose... at that point you can either replace the fuse box or use a dab of solder on the relay legs and that will effectively fill in some of the gap between the relay leg and fuse box slot

Dealership ???....you don’t want to do that !!...LOL !!!!...
you just have to get the ground of the control side of the relay (pin 85) cleaned up !!...you’re almost there !!...if pin 85 ground is perfect and now it doesn’t start yes it could be the pins inside the fuse box not making good contact with the relay...if I were you and being that the car is getting older and they do have ground issues go to an auto parts store and get yourself an old headlight bulb and connector and use it as a “load tester”...I pictured one of the few I’ve made...I have one that draws 1amp, 3 amp and 4.5 amps !!...you hook one end to battery positive and the other end to the ground you’re checking...if the ground is good the light will light brightly when checked !!....you just have to find G105 at the block !!
I just looked at the wiring for your 2002 model year...it says G105 is “TOP LEFT SIDE OF ENGINE”...I referenced the location for my 2001... here is a pic for 2002 wiring !!...maybe someone with an ‘02 can chime in with the EXACT location !!
I know there is a ground on the back of the driver side head on my 02, not sure if that is the same one you are referencing
No Sir !!...that is G107 which are the grounds for left and right coil packs !!...they are in a difficult location behind the left cylinder head !!...if you have the FSM for your ‘02 can you see exactly where G105 is located ??...left top side of engine doesn’t tell us much !!

I don't have the manual, the only other grounds I can think of in that area is the one on the side of the block (which you already referenced) and the frame rail
Thanks Neutron !!...OP just has to find where G105 is located...he found the ground strap but I don’t think he sees the ground wire which comes from the splice pack... I took 3 pics of 3 different ways to check the ground...with my
voltmeter (battery positive to pin 85) , ohmeter (connected from pin 85 to the engine block) and a “load light “...( battery positive to pin 85)...load light is my #1 way to check the ground !!
