I just changed out a leaking coolant tank with an 18 lbs cap and I saw a 10 degree drop in temp with the new tank.
Also for those with leaking tanks, there is a pretty big wire harness under that tank just waiting to be destroyed by leaking DeX cool. Mine was good but if I had put it off and those wires were damaged I hate to think what would have happened
Was the temperature drop due to the 18 pound coolant reservoir cap ? The older cap was 15 lbs. the newer one is 18 lbs. can anyone please confirm that changing the cap to the 18lbs would also resining cooler temperatures ?? Thx
The pressure of the cap raises the boiling point. Every 1 psi equates to 3 degrees raise in the boiling point. Could you attribute it to new coolant, or a new thermostat? Was the system flushed? Better heat transfer now?

With a cracked coolant tank, the cooling system was not under pressure regardless of poundage of the cap. The new tank restored the system to proper pressure and probably purged the system of any trapped air in the system.

System was not Flushed I just replaced the tank and cap. I put close to a gallon of mixed dex cool in , left the cap off and ran the car until the thermostat opened, put the cap back on and drove it .
