Anyone Amsoil users on Street application? That includes from stock to medium modded engines with less than 430hp and TQ. No heavy mods like turbo or SC

Let’s hear your good or bad experience

I ask because I am ready to switch away from mobile 1. Amsoil caught my attention and I know some may say steer away for whatever reason and that’s ok. People say the same about mobile 1 and other big brands that you might be using.

I’ve asked a similar question about Royal Purple last year and it was a love it or hate it.

Thank you!

The membership fee and limited locations to purchase does get annoying. Thankfully, I live 20 minutes from a distribution warehouse. I use Amsoil for engine/diff/trans on my FRC and love it. The first round of fluid change when I bought the car I used all OEM recommended fluids and it was “okay”, but shifts were occasionally not right and oil temp seemed to always creep higher on average. After the swap to Amsoil, my shifts are smooth as butter and engine oil temps hover lower on average.

It is probably all in my head...but Amsoil is certainly a quality product. I’ve used it in my Harleys over the years also and was always pleased. You probably can’t go wrong with another “big brand” as Amsoil isn’t the end all be all, but you can be comforted in knowing it’s just as good if not better then them.

You'll find a lot of lover's and hater's again.
I quit using Amsoil many years ago when it got to expensive. Now, I would use it in a brand new engine but not one that is broken in because of the expense.
Almost all the synthetic oil on the market today has the specs for the C5. I prefer Mobile 1 but right now I have Quaker State synthetic in my 03 C5. It was on sale for half of what Mobile 1 sold for. It meets all the specs and is Dexos certified. I also use it in my 2014 Silverado and my wife's Hyundai.
Use what you want but make sure it meets the specs.
Good luck!

I use amsoil for my engine, trans, and diff. As far as the engine I’d bet it would last just as long with supertech conventional oil as it will with amsoil. But it makes me feel good using top notch stuff

cca sells amsoil for pretty good prices and there is a distribution center a city away from me so I usually get it within a day or 2, so it works fine for me personally

For street use, I can damn near promise you that you will see zero difference between Mobil 1 and any other high quality oil of the correct weight.

I did switch to amsoil for track use based on a number of recommendations, but even still, it's a game of cutting off the chicken's head and playing the kazoo as it stumbles around and falls on the brand name of an oil company.

For a track car that is always in the upper RPM ranges an running hot (250*++ coolant/oil temps) for 20+min yes it is great oil that won't break down. For a DD that is driven spirited you are probably fine with any good synthetic oil.

I have done a couple track days and a number of autox days on amsoil, one on mobil 1.

I always put new oil in the week before a track day.

Oil doesn't get hot enough at autox to even worry.

When you street-drive them, you should probably change your oil at least once a year or at the mileage you're comfortable with - a lot of people do about 3000 or less, though the oils will happily last 5-8k without complaint based on analysis.

When you track-drive them, you're changing your oil far before any sort of mileage or time metric ... they "last" long enough to drive on the track, get you home, and then drive around town or go have fun on weekends for a couple months until they get changed out for the next track day.

Good to know, mobile 1 not cutting it for my habits.

Are you street-driving it? From your original post, it sounded like you were looking for a street-driven application. Or is this a track build?

To be super clear: on the street, you are hitting and maintaining for minutes (or longer) the upper RPM ranges (5000+ RPM) and 250F+ temperatures? Like, you're just sitting there, cruising, near redline, for a while, regularly?

Yeah, if you're gonna do that, I'd recommend you follow GM's recommendations for track use. Change your oil very frequently, drive with a quart overfilled (and get a catch can), and probably use a heavier weight oil to ensure you have adequate PSI / shear strength at very high temps. You may even want to consider a racing oil (like the 300V stuff.)

I'd recommend if you do that, give your car the full track treatment. Get a fatter radiator, get big fans, get an oil cooler, strongly consider a power steering cooler, wrap everything near your headers in some sort of heat-reflection wrap, strongly consider a diff and trans cooler, and change your fluids constantly.

This is very expensive.

If on the other hand you're merely going for some spirited runs once in a while, and you're not hitting and maintaining high temps, the standard setup will work fine.
