has anyone ever looked at the different shafts side by side? we haven't ever broken one of ours, but I did notice a visible difference between ours, and other companies shafts. I would be willing to put together a group purchase if any one is interested. There has to be 5 or 10 guys out there that need one.
The problem with the current rear end is one side has a seperate output shaft(long side) and the other side has an output shaft and axle gear in one. you can't just make an output shaft for the short side once it starts breaking due to the design. My idea was to get a gear from a 2.73 carrier and get a new shaft made for that to use on the short side. If you have ever torn a differential apart you will know what I mean.

Re: (Ed Potter @ LPE)
I could certainly be interested in this GP, as i need to hold the power that will be generated by my MTI 427ci Z07 Ironblock, that is now being built by MTI, as i have the same tranny as Kwik8Racer, and he has now shown us that A4s with huge power aren't immune from this freakin newest headache! :U
I have a breathless shaft here, so I will get some pics of ours lined up next to that one, and post them today. Somebody from ZO6.com posted the GP there too, so we shouldn't have any trouble getting 10 people together, I have 2 names on my list, so e-mail me if you want to get added to the list.

I'm in on the GP if we can do it right away and if you can post more details.

I would have to say ours would be stronger than the one from speedworks.
If you look at the pics, you can see the thickness of the matierial where the bearing rides only, our shaft maintains that thickness for the length of the shaft. Somebody please tell me how to post pics here, and I'll post them. You can see our shaft at this link: http://www.lingenfelter.com/lingenfe...52&pf%5Fid=522
I will post a pic of the breathless shaft shortly.

Thanks, Ed. Looks like a comparable piece.
I have to say, however, that I have not seen any shafts break where the LPE and Breathless shafts are thicker than the Speedworks shaft. I've seen the high HP cars either twisting the splines or snapping the shaft between the splines and the area where the bearing rides. Either way, I'm sure your piece is much stronger than stock. :)
We haven't seen any other breakage after installing the shaft, but some other forum members are seeing some. You might want to watch another thread about breakage in the diff. in C5 tech/performance.

Does anyone make an improved passenger side (short) shaft/gear?
I just broke mine in my dead stock, F1 tire 2003 Z06 during my "on the rubber" burnout. Car never moved an inch when I dumped the clutch at 3000. A whole new rear is going in, but it looks like I might have to fight GM on warranty.
My point will be that the driver's side (long) shaft has been improved upon by the aftermarket industry due to a need for it.....but is there also a need for the passenger side?
So...is the short shaft available in a hardend form?
I'll do some checking to see if anybody offers a shaft for the other side.If not, we may be willing to make one, if there is enough interest.
I'm still waiting for about 7 more people to call in and place their order on the group purchase, remember, I can't start shipping untill all 10 orders are placed, so if you posted saying you were in, please call (260)724-2552 and place the order. The members that already called are patiently waiting.
Thanks,
Ed
Thanks for the quick reply. It looks like the left side shaft is considered the "weak link", not the right side. So, it's somewhat surprising that I broke the right and not the left.
I hope GM will honor full warranty coverage on this 2200 mile car. I never even got out of the waterbox and made a pass!!
